Wetland soils play a critical role in global carbon storage, but how resilient are these carbon stocks to environmental change?

At the opening plenary today, Lisa G. Chambers of the University of Central Florida presented Future Directions in Wetland Soil Carbon Research, highlighting emerging research on mineral-associated organic matter and its role in stabilizing carbon in wetland soils.

Her work bridges gaps between upland and wetland soil science and provides valuable insights into the vulnerability of wetland carbon stocks amid climate change, sea level rise, restoration efforts, and urbanization.

Understanding these processes is essential to advancing wetland conservation and climate mitigation strategies.
