A limited number of SWS Gratis Memberships are awarded to individuals from developing countries on a competitive basis.
To qualify for a Gratis Membership, the applicant must work and live in a developing country, receive their full income from such a country, and earn less than $40,000 USD annually.

The SWS Africa Region is pleased to announce three opportunities designed to advance wetland research, participation and professional connection across Africa.

Research Grant — US$1,000:
Support for a clearly defined wetland research project that advances knowledge and understanding in its field. Who may apply: Current SWS Africa members; applications are open to students and non-students. Application window: One month — closes 30 September 2026. Sponsored by the Society of Wetland Scientists International Chapter and Education Section, HumMentor connects senior undergraduate and early graduate students from Latin America and the Caribbean with mentorship opportunities in wetland science.

Students conducting research or scientific outreach related to wetlands are encouraged to apply.

The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) Membership Committee has completed its triennial dues review, with updated membership rates designed to better reflect members at different career and income levels.

Highlights include:
• New Early Career Professional rate: $59/year for those earning less than $40,000 annually
• New membership rate for those earning more than $120,000 annually
• Updated Emeritus rate: $65/year for members age 65+ who have been SWS members for at least 10 years
• Updated Lifetime Membership: $2,125

Whether you're beginning your career, continuing to grow in the wetlands profession, or have dedicated decades to the field, SWS offers a membership option for you.
