Congratulations to Our 2025 Firefighter of the Year!

We are incredibly proud to announce Guy Walkner as the Fieldbrook Volunteer Fire Department’s Firefighter of the Year!

Guy has been a dedicated member of our team for three years, but this past year truly showcased his commitment to the department and the community. A Humboldt County native who grew up in Arcata and McKinleyville, Guy’s journey eventually led him to the Coast Guard. After moving back to the area and marrying into a local Fieldbrook family—his wife Ashley and is the son in law of Kelly and Ross Costa who is a longtime FVFD member—Guy knew he wanted to give back to the community he calls home.

Over the last 12 months, Guy has contributed immensely to our operations. His personal growth as a first responder and his constant strive to be a better volunteer have set a fantastic example for the entire department. Whether it’s putting in extra hours or leading by example, Guy’s dedication ensures we are better prepared to serve you.

On Saturday night, FVFD convened its annual dinner, fostering camaraderie and acknowledging the outstanding efforts of its members. Gratitude is heartfelt for the volunteers' dedication and the community's consistent support.

Join us May 3 from 12–3 p.m. at McKinleyville High School for Public Safety Day!

Hosted by the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, CAL FIRE Humboldt-Del Norte Unit will be there along with many other local agencies. Come meet the teams who serve your community and see public safety in action.
