🚨 McKenzie Police Department – Safety Alert 🚨

Due to the severe weather currently impacting our area, we are urging all residents to use extreme caution when traveling. Do NOT drive through water-covered roads.

It only takes a small amount of moving water to carry a vehicle away, and the depth of water on roadways is often impossible to judge. What may look like a minor inconvenience can quickly turn into a life-threatening situation.

⚠️ Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
• Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways
• Obey all road closures and warning signs
• Avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve

Please stay alert, stay informed, and most importantly—stay safe, McKenzie.

Carroll County has two FEMA-approved tornado shelters available during severe weather:

📍 Carroll County Jail
200 Norandal Drive, Huntingdon, TN 38344

📍 Bethel University – Library Basement(Entrance at the rear southeast corner near the log cabin)
105 Campus Drive, McKenzie, TN 38201

In addition, Tennessee law (TCA 58-2-121) provides important protections for churches and other facilities that choose to open their doors as emergency shelters. This law helps limit liability for those who voluntarily allow their buildings to be used for public sheltering during emergencies, as long as it is done without compensation and in good faith.

We know many churches in our community are willing to help during severe weather. If your church opens its basement or facility as a tornado shelter, please comment below with the location so others can be aware of safe options nearby.

📍Atwood Cornerstone Church
1350 Main St W
Atwood, TN 38220

As always, have multiple ways to receive warnings and stay weather aware.
