Come out around 10:30 this morning and see the Red Knights RK VA 8 come through McKenney. There are over 100 registered bikes this year. The Red Knights are comprised of current and retired members of the fire service. This charity ride event puts money back into our community. Show your support for their service and honor those lost 25 years ago on 9/11.

UPDATE: 7:00 PM I-85 is open. We still have numerous reports of trees and wires down in the area.

UPDATE: 6:32 PM I-85 northbound is blocked near the 41 mile marker due to a fallen tree. Use the Rawlings exit in order to avoid delays.

We have had several reports of fallen trees in the roadways. Use extra caution in your travels and don’t try to remove trees if they are caught in a powerline.

Volunteer members from McKenney and throughout the county participated in training from the Metro Richmond Flying Squad. Providing rehab to our first responders is an important task many of our Support members provide and this was a terrific training and reinforcement of our teamwork.

On August 12th we were fortunate to give a demonstration of our grain rescue tube to a group of soil conservation personnel and local farmers. This equipment is used to safely remove a person from a grain bin that has been entrapped or engulfed . The classroom portion was used to encourage caution in entering a grain tank. Never go in alone. Never go in without proper safety equipment. Always call 911. Do not hesitate to call 911. It was stressed that this is a very time-consuming operation to safely remove the victim and keep all First Responders safe at the same time. We were able to present an extrication with our grain tube simulator located at Company 5 Old Hickory. Thanks to all who participated in this demonstration. Special thanks to crew of Heavy Rescue One. To the Crew of Truck 4. To all of the volunteers, off duty personnel and support members that made this a Hands-On learning experience and helping to educate the public on this segment of farm safety. An extra special thanks to our Fire And EMS administrative personnel who are hands on.
ALWAYS CALL 911 DO NOT WAIT!!!
