Today is a solemn day in the Western Pennsylvania EMS community. We at Northwest EMS were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Amos Cameron.

Many of us were lucky to have worked with Amos closely over the years and fortunate to get to know the phenomenal man he was. Amos was a true leader and advocate for EMS in our region, and he will be sorely, sorely missed.

We would like to pass along our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our friend, colleague, and former coworker, Amos P. Cameron. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Amos passed away on Wednesday, October 29th, surrounded by his family and closest friends.

Amos dedicated his life to Emergency Services in Allegheny County and throughout Western Pennsylvania. During his time with EMSI and EMS West, he oversaw Regional Operations and led multiple Strike Team deployments to Louisiana and New Jersey. His leadership, commitment, and compassion left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to work alongside him.

Funeral arrangements will be shared once they are available. Please keep Amos’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Today marks 24 years since the tragic events of 9/11 — a day that changed countless lives forever.

We pause to remember the nearly 3,000 people that didn't make it home. We will remember the many innocent lives lost, and the first responders who showed incredible courage in the face of chaos.

We will carry their legacy with us every time we answer a call. Their bravery and commitment remind us why we do what we do.

We will never forget.

Northwest EMS is proud to highlight Ayanna Bell for her progression from EMT to Paramedic!

Ayanna has been with NWEMS for a little over a year: while continuing to work, Ayanna completed her Paramedic training through the University of Pittsburgh Emergency Medicine Program. She will continue on this year, into the senior year, moving towards her Bachelors Degree in Emergency Medicine while working at NWEMS.

Since passing the Paramedic program, Ayanna passed the NREMT, passed her initial ALS onboarding/training/clinical time and is now working as a Paramedic with full medical command!

Congratulations Ayanna!

It's the time of year again in which we get the chance to celebrate many of our EMTs progressing to Paramedics, with the completion of various Paramedic programs!

To begin with, Northwest EMS is proud to showcase two of our providers: Ryan Hayes and Noah Denton. Both are in the Emergency Medicine program at the University of Pittsburgh and have completed the Paramedic training portion of the program (junior year). Ryan and Noah have both passed the national registry, completed their precepting and are out on the streets as Paramedics with full medical command!

Ryan has been with us here at NWEMS for a little over a year and Noah has been with us for around a year and a half. They both worked as EMTs before and during the program and have an excellent foundation of NorthWest EMS operations, alongside their in depth Paramedic knowledge from the University of Pittsburgh.

Congratulations Paramedic Hayes and Paramedic Denton!

We have a number of other providers that have recently progressed and we look forward to sharing these success stories in the coming weeks.

Northwest EMS would like to pass along our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Chief William Plunkett as well as our colleagues at Baldwin EMS.

Chief Plunkett was a true advocate and leader within the EMS community, he will be sorely missed by many.

Message from Deputy Chief Brian McCaffrey
Passing of William E. Plunkett (1946-2025)

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Retired Chief of the Department and current Financial Officer to the Board of Directors, William E. Plunkett. Bill joined Baldwin E.M.S. in 1979 and was an influential leader throughout the region. With over 45 years of dedicated service to Baldwin E.M.S. Bill’s dedication and influence will live on in the lives he touched and the careers he mentored. We will carry on doing whatever it takes and treating everyone like family, just like you taught us. Rest easy Chief, we have the watch from here.

Funeral arrangements are still being made and will be forwarded on when available. I ask that you keep Bill’s family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Please direct questions regarding funeral arrangments to [email protected]

Thank you.

Brian J. McCaffrey, Deputy Chief

Working a cooperative effort… The Ohio Twp Police are hosting a device charging station and grilling food for those without power.

Stop by the lot on Center Ave by The Center Ave Bridge. There will be charging stations and burgers/hotdogs available for those without power.

Starting at noon… and assisting us will be Emsworth VFC, Northwest EMS, and The Pittsburgh DJ Truck. We don’t know what time it will end, but we are trying to give back where we can.

Unfortunately, we don’t know any more on updates to power restoration. However, if you reside in the area, need to charge a device, some food, or simply need to get out, please swing by.
