Happy National Donut Day! ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿš”

Today we recognize the unofficial fuel source (power rings) of law enforcement everywhere. Whether itโ€™s powdered, glazed, jelly-filled, or frosted, donuts have been keeping officers going on early mornings, late nights, and long shifts for generations. ๐Ÿ˜„

In all seriousness, we hope everyone takes a moment today to support a local bakery, enjoy a sweet treat, and share a smile with someone in your community.

Stay safe, have a great day, and rememberโ€ฆ we can neither confirm nor deny the true power behind a good donut ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿ’™

Today we are celebrating a very special milestone โ€” the 10-year anniversary of our IT Manager, Aaron Greve! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿš”

For the past decade, Aaron has been the person we call when the computers freeze, the printers mysteriously stop working, the Wi-Fi disappears, or someone says, โ€œI didnโ€™t touch anything, it just stopped working.โ€

From keeping our systems secure to making sure officers and staff stay connected 24/7, Aaron has been the departmentโ€™s behind-the-scenes problem solver and tech expert. Weโ€™re pretty sure heโ€™s fixed thousands of issues over the yearsโ€ฆ including a few that were solved simply by unplugging and plugging something back in. ๐Ÿ”Œ๐Ÿ˜„

Thank you for 10 years of having perfect hair, your dedication, patience, and asking the question, โ€œHave you tried turning it off and back on again?โ€ more times than anyone should have to.

We truly appreciate everything you do for the department and our community. Congratulations on 10 years, Aaron! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™

MEMORIAL DAY TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT GRANT RESULTS

The McHenry Police Department is announcing the results of its Memorial Day enforcement campaign, which was aimed at increasing seat belt use and keeping roadways safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

During the campaign, the McHenry Police Department issued 132 citations, including 19 citations for seat belt violations. The department also took the following enforcement actions:

* 3 arrests for driving while license revoked/suspended
* 27 citations for speeding violations
* 48 citations for distracted driving/electronic communication violations
* 13 citations for Scottโ€™s Law, also known as the โ€œMove Over Lawโ€
* 25 citations for other violations, including driving without insurance, no valid safety certificate, and license and registration violations

The campaign reflects law enforcementโ€™s continued commitment to roadway safety and reinforces the message that buckling up and obeying traffic laws saves lives.

The โ€œClick It or Ticketโ€ initiative is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. For more information on safe driving practices, visit ItsNotaGameIllinois.com.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day and will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this holiday and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

From all of us at the McHenry Police Department, we thank our fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

The McHenry Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the 2026 โ€œClick It or Ticketโ€ enforcement campaign during the Memorial Day holiday travel period.

During the campaign, officers will conduct high-visibility enforcement during both daytime and nighttime hours, with a focus on seat belt violations and other dangerous driving behaviors, including speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and occupant protection violations. Officers will also be watching for Scottโ€™s Law violations, commonly known as the โ€œMove Overโ€ law.

Illinois law requires all drivers and passengers to wear a seat belt. While seat belt usage in Illinois reached 93% in 2025, unrestrained fatalities remain a serious concern, particularly during nighttime hours.

Buckling up saves lives. Every trip. Every time.

The โ€œClick It or Ticketโ€ campaign is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
