Henry County has appointed Chief Bess Baugh as the new Chief of Police!

With 30 years of distinguished law enforcement experience, including the past 20 years serving the Henry County Police Department, Chief Baugh brings a proven record of leadership, integrity, and commitment to public safety.

Throughout her career, she has broken barriers while rising through the ranks, becoming the first Black woman to serve as Captain, Major, and now Chief of Police in the department’s history.

As Chief, Baugh is committed to strengthening community partnerships, supporting officer wellness and ensuring the Henry County Police Department continues to provide exceptional service to those who live, work, and visit our community.

This summer, the Henry County Police Explorers Post 562 had the unique opportunity to learn from the professionals at the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office. During this hands-on educational experience, our Explorers gained insight into forensic investigations, death scene examinations, human anatomy, and the vital role medical examiners play in the criminal justice system.

This experience gave our Explorers a better understanding of how law enforcement, forensic science, and medical professionals work together to determine the facts surrounding unexplained deaths and support criminal investigations. Opportunities like this expose our Explorers to specialized career paths while reinforcing the importance of professionalism, attention to detail, and serving the community with integrity.

A huge thank you to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for taking the time to share your knowledge and provide such an engaging and educational experience for our Explorers. Your willingness to invest in the next generation of public safety professionals is truly appreciated.
