Thank you everyone for your donations on Barb's GoFundMe! We have decided to pause the GoFundMe now so that we can cash out the funds and write Barb a check. After GoFundMe's processing fees, we've raised a total of $3,642.26 - that's incredible!

As for Barb, she is still in the hospital, but she's been transferred to a more general floor. Originally, the plan was to discharge her to a rehab facility while she heals and then to home, but this would have put a lot of strain on her husband Dan, as he wouldn't be able to get days off of work to visit/care for her. This arrangement allows her to get the care she needs while Dan doesn't have to take precious time off work.

We will keep providing updates as we get them, but hopefully, things will only improve from here.

We want to share an update with you about Barb. Last week, she received a third round of artificial skin grafts, and this week, she was able to receive the final skin grafts using her own skin. This will hopefully be the last major procedure she needs to recover.

That said, she's still in the hospital and isn't cleared to go home yet. Doctors need to make sure she's healing and the skin doesn't get infected. Unfortunately, she is still in a lot of pain and will likely continue to be until her skin heals more.

At this point, Barb has been in the hospital nearly a month, so bills are accumulating. Anything you can do to share this fundraiser and get the word out to more people will be a big help!

Update on Barb:

Barb underwent the second round of artificial skin grafts last week. Her body is handling them really well, and her doctors hope that the next grafts can be real donor skin grafts.

Originally, they thought she might need several more rounds of artificial grafts, so this is good news.

If you're not familiar with the process, artificial skin grafts are a bioengineered material that covers the burned area and promotes healing. However, they're not enough to completely heal the area - for that, Barb requires a donor skin graft.

Donor skin grafts are pieces of skin harvested from unburned parts of Barb's body. They'll replace the skin that was lost in the burned areas. Over time, the donor skin should integrate into the new area. However, there's always a risk of rejection, infection, and not developing enough blood supply to keep the skin alive.

We'll keep you updated on how she's progressing!

Barb successfully underwent the first of several skin graft procedures on Friday. Her docs used artificial skin to cover the wounds on her right hand. The goal is to give the area more time to heal with the artificial skin, and then once it's doing better, replace it with real skin harvested from a donor site. It's expected she'll need a couple artificial grafts depending on how her body reacts before she can have the final grafts.

Her right hand and parts of her torso are the areas that received third-degree burns. Luckily, her left hand just got first- and second-degree burns, so she is able to use it to feed herself.

Unfortunately, she is in a lot of pain - burns are notoriously painful. She'll still be in the hospital for at least a few more weeks so they can monitor her healing and manage her pain levels.

We really appreciate all of the donations so far! They will go a long way in helping to pay for her hospital expenses. But as she still has a long way to go, we'd appreciate it if you could continue to share this fundraiser so we can grow the total even higher. Thank you again! 🙏

Our soup sale last Saturday did not turn out as planned. Unfortunately, one of our hard-working auxiliary members was badly burned by a hot pot of soup.

Barbara is in the hospital now recovering from third-degree burns on her hands and first- and second-degree burns across the rest of her body. She has a long recovery ahead of her, and we want to help raise funds for her treatment.

Her doctors say she'll need to be in the hospital for two to three weeks at least, and even when she's discharged, she likely won't be able to return to her job as a cook for some time.
