Special thanks to the Eichelberger family for their generous donation to the South Carolina Governor’s School for Agriculture Equine Center .

We had some students on campus during the summer who were there to help unload and organize our new horse tack.

Did you know that the school has a John de la Howe School Foundation? It is the place where your generosity opens doors for students, strengthens agricultural education programs, and ensures South Carolina’s agricultural heritage continues to thrive for generations to come. Join us in congratulating Mr. Thompson, the SC Governor's School for Agriculture at John de la Howe's retiring principal, as he was presented with the Order of the Palmetto this morning. The Order of the Palmetto is South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, awarded to individuals for extraordinary lifetime achievements and contributions to the state.

This is an incredible recognition, and we are proud to be associated with Mr. Thompson and all that he has achieved as a leader on our campus and in the community.

In addition to Mr. Thompson's family, there were a host of SC's biggest supporters of the school and the legacy of Mr. Thompson.

More information on the significance of this achievement can be found here:

Continue to follow along as Mr. Thompson also received recognition of the highest order from his alma mater, SC State 1890 Research & Extension which will be posted as a standalone feature on our page in the near future.

The South Carolina Governor's School for Agriculture at John de la Howe is a state-funded, public residential high school focused on providing a unique and challenging agricultural education program.

Our school, the first statewide program of its kind in the nation, allows students to receive hands-on training in agriculture, agribusiness, forestry, land management, food science, and more.

All of this is focused on meeting the needs of modern farms and growing the future leaders in South Carolina's largest industry.

Savannah is certainly on track to meeting the needs of modern farms. A future leader in SC agriculture indeed.

We have a new state FFA officer amongst our alumni, and a JDLH team finished in 3rd place in Gator Wars at the FFA State Convention! Staff and students at JDLH never sleep.

Our FFA Chapter was awarded the coveted Governor's Citation Award placing them among the top three chapters in SC! Congratulations to our FFA Advisors who are the driving force behind our FFA chapter and the long hours of collecting chapter data and completing the application!

Mr. Abrams' team of mechanics earned 3rd place in Gator Wars after qualifying locally during the school year. Way to go team! As many of you know Agricultural Mechanics & Technology is one of our educational pathways so it should come as no surprise JDLH performed so well. Gator Wars is an FFA competition where students troubleshoot and repair John Deere Gator vehicles, testing their mechanical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

Also, congratulations to Savannah Griffin! She was state champion in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE! Savannah is a JDLH Class of 2026 graduate and future Clemson freshman.

She was also just elected as a state FFA officer! She will be serving as the State Secretary which is one of six positions out of 13k FFA members statewide!

We have additional winners and awards. Stay tuned for updates.

Did you know that the campus at the SC Governor's School for Agriculture at John de la Howe has beachfront property?

It's true, and it helps with our canoe experience which is part of the summer camp program here every summer.

We start the advertising for summer camps as early as May. Mark your calendars for next year! The Education Center at John de la Howe

Our Equine Center Coordinator, Ms. Baxley, brought two students to the State 4-H Horse Show held in Clemson at the T. Ed Garrison Arena June 9-11th, and they brought home the hardware!

A great performance by our students, and an equally important movement forward in our equine program here on campus. In the words of Mr. McCall, "It's amazing how much progress your [Ms. Baxley's] program has made in such a short time."

We couldn't agree more.

Does this look like something you, as a 10th-12th grade student, would like to be a part of? Or, are you the parent of a rising middle school student who is interested in an agriculture educational pathway? Check us out here for more details: https://www.delahowe.sc.gov/page/admissions
