We look forward to welcoming you to the grand opening of the Joan Brown Spouse Space and honoring Mrs. Brown and all of our military spouses!

In preparation for Friday, we want to provide some insight into why we are honoring Mrs. Brown. This space is intended to support, honor and be a welcoming environment for spouses to grow, connect and thrive. We want this room to be represented by someone embodying the characteristics and goals for this group. Mrs. Brown has continued to give back to spouses at McChord, speaking at multiple round tables and mentoring countless spouses. Her care for spouses is emblematic of the Joan Brown Spouse Space goals – USAF cares for spouses, values and supports them, and wants to continually contribute to a thriving and close-knit community. She also exemplifies several other core value for spouses: heritage. After having served as a command spouse for several years at McChord AFB. Mrs. Brown and her husband treasured their time so much that they returned to Steilacoom when their service ended. Mrs. Brown is a published author (“Move: And Other Four Letter Words” detailing 21 military moves), volunteered at the Thrift Shop during her tenure at McChord, Family Services, the Red Cross, Milady (spouse magazine), and many other base activities. Multiple spouses at McChord have referred to her book as a reference and it is relatable with respect to the challenges military spouses still face. We hope you will join us to celebrate her contribution to military spouses over the years and to honor all of our military spouses who support so much.

As we near the end of our painting journey, we eagerly await the exciting changes ahead! Our space will soon be enhanced by the introduction of conference tables, desks, and chairs. To complement these additions, a comfortable sofa, chair, and coffee table will complete our welcoming atmosphere!
