September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month, a reminder that mental health matters at every age.

For older adults, grief, changes in health or independence, loneliness, and other life transitions can take an emotional toll. Staying connected, recognizing when someone may be struggling, and helping them find support can make a meaningful difference.

McCamey County Hospital District's Senior Life Solutions supports adults 65 and older who may be experiencing persistent sadness, grief, excessive worry, stress, loss of interest in activities, or other emotional challenges. Through group and individual sessions, peer support, and personalized care, the program helps older adults navigate life's changes with support close to home.

If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts or emotional distress, call or text 988. In an immediate, life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

You know your loved one. When they begin withdrawing from others, worrying more than usual, sleeping poorly, losing energy, or giving up activities they once enjoyed, it may be time to check in.

These changes should not simply be dismissed as a normal part of aging. They may signal that an older adult is struggling with grief, depression, anxiety, stress, or another difficult life transition.

Senior Life Solutions at McCamey County Hospital District helps adults 65 and older receive personalized support while continuing to live at home. Through group sessions, individual and family therapy, peer connection, and medication education and management, participants can work toward feeling more connected, capable, and hopeful.

Families and caregivers can help by noticing changes, starting a conversation, and reaching out for support.
