Attractions include a mid-1800s machine shop, original parts of the Six Mile Bloomery Forge dating to the 1830s, a Civil War collection, a history of the Birmingham cast iron pipe industry, and other historical objects relating to Alabama's iron and steel industry.

Mr. Bennett was a key founder of this museum, and did much of the research behind the exhibits here. He was also instrumental in founding Tannehill State Park and preserving the ironworks here. He authored an in-depth, thoroughly researched history of the Tannehill Ironworks, its surrounding area, the Alabama Iron Industry called "Tannehill and the Growth of the Alabama Iron Industry." The Iron and Steel Museum and Tannehill State Park have lost a dedicated and loyal friend in Mr. Bennett. We are extremely grateful for his many years of service and friendship, and our hearts go out to his family. He will be missed.

Bennett, a former state representative and state senator, served four terms as secretary of state.
