United Way annually accepts applications for funding from local agencies that have nonprofit status. Applications typically open in the winter and must be submitted by spring in order to be considered. This year, we are able to provide funding for three agencies in VC.
Shepherd’s House was awarded $2,000 to help promote their mission of assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This nonprofit provides shelter, advocacy, and emotional support for individuals in need and funding ensures these resources can continue to be accessible.
Vinton County Senior Citizen’s Center was the second agency to receive funding, in the amount of $2,500. Through this funding, the center can continue to provide delivered meals, transportation, and outreach to senior citizens in our community. The Vinton County Senior Citizen’s Center is a valuable resource to all persons aged 60 and older and can also assist handicap individuals or those who receive Medicaid.
The third agency, Vinton County Cancer Research, was awarded $3,000 to aid in their purpose of providing financial assistance to VC residents impacted by cancer. This nonprofit focuses specifically on the cost of transportation to medical appointments by providing gas vouchers to individuals in need.
Applications for funding are closed for this year, but will reopen again in February 2024. Digital applications can be e-mailed and will be posted on our page. Paper applications can also be available and will be mailed appropriately.
