For 32 years, United Way of Vinton County has worked to serve our community. We recruit people and organizations from across the community to bring passion, expertise and commitment to getting things accomplished. United Way focuses on the building blocks for a good quality of life; education, financial stability, and health. The United Way of Vinton County is strengthening our community and givin

g opportunities for all who live here. Recently, we have partnered with Rio Grande, Vinton County Cancer Research Group, Senior Citizens and the EMA to name a few. Rio Grande Community College and United Way will offer scholarships to 15 Vinton County High School students to participate in ACT prep classes and will be paying for them to take the ACT. Also ,United Way has partnered with the Vinton County Cancer Research Group to offer gas cards to those in our community that are battling cancer. These gas cards will provide financial relief as they travel to treatments. In addition, United Way is also working with the EMA to offer Warming/Cooling stations throughout the county when needed. Along with this, we will be available to help with emergency needs that arise in our community. Lastly, United Way offers Community Building Mini Grants to nonprofit groups within our community. A $250 grant is awarded each month to help a local group make an impact on our community. With United Way of Vinton County, your donations stay local and support life-changing efforts in your own community.

United Way of Vinton County would like to thank Rolling Hills Generating for their extremely generous donation of $5,000 this past spring. With their donation, we were able to assist several local agencies that serve our community. This contribution represents everything good about Vinton County; we support each other in times of need and we genuinely care! THANK YOU to Rolling Hills Generating!

In addition to our annual funding, we offer Community Building Grants up to $250 on a monthly basis to nonprofit agencies looking to enhance their community. Any nonprofit organizations with an annual budget of $40,000 or less are encouraged to apply.

Since spring United Way has awarded two Community Building Grants. Vinton County Health Department's Help Me Grow received $250 to purchase a bicycle for their Bike Rodeo, an event that provided information regarding safe bicycle practices and distributed bikes to kids of all ages. Vinton County 4-H council also received $250 towards their 4-H camp, a four-day camp that fosters growth in leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

United Way of Vinton County is proud to offer these small grants throughout the year. If your organization is looking to make change in this community, contact me at 740-590-5224 or email at [email protected] for an application to this grant.

United Way annually accepts applications for funding from local agencies that have nonprofit status. Applications typically open in the winter and must be submitted by spring in order to be considered. This year, we are able to provide funding for three agencies in VC.

Shepherd’s House was awarded $2,000 to help promote their mission of assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This nonprofit provides shelter, advocacy, and emotional support for individuals in need and funding ensures these resources can continue to be accessible.

Vinton County Senior Citizen’s Center was the second agency to receive funding, in the amount of $2,500. Through this funding, the center can continue to provide delivered meals, transportation, and outreach to senior citizens in our community. The Vinton County Senior Citizen’s Center is a valuable resource to all persons aged 60 and older and can also assist handicap individuals or those who receive Medicaid.

The third agency, Vinton County Cancer Research, was awarded $3,000 to aid in their purpose of providing financial assistance to VC residents impacted by cancer. This nonprofit focuses specifically on the cost of transportation to medical appointments by providing gas vouchers to individuals in need.

Applications for funding are closed for this year, but will reopen again in February 2024. Digital applications can be e-mailed and will be posted on our page. Paper applications can also be available and will be mailed appropriately. Should you have any questions please contact me, Blake Wright, via email at [email protected] or on my cell phone at 740-590-5224. Check out this page tomorrow for additional ways to receive funding throughout the year!
