Ken Paxton’s financial disclosures are raising some pretty serious questions.

A ProPublica and Texas Tribune investigation found that Paxton reported owning seven homes while claiming essentially no rental income from them — even though six were recently advertised for rent.

Reporters also found three undisclosed mortgages totaling about $1.3 million on condos at a Utah golf resort.

Then there’s a 42-acre property near Fort Worth. Last year, Paxton valued his stake at no more than $50,000. His own business partner says Paxton’s share has actually been worth about $1 million for years.

Paxton reported a net worth somewhere between $1 million and $27 million this year — a remarkably wide range for voters trying to understand the finances of someone asking to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate.

Paxton’s campaign dismisses the reporting as partisan allegations. But financial disclosure laws exist for a reason: voters deserve to know where candidates’ money comes from, what they own and what they owe.

Transparency shouldn’t be a partisan issue.

Voices for Democracy RGV committees have been working to prepare to block walk, send postcards, text message, etc. We are producing yard signs, door hangars, and other printed materials that can be used.
