United Way of South Texas

United Way of South Texas Give. Advocate. Volunteer. http://www.unitedwayofsotx.org Every organization is looking to maximize its investments and time commitments.

United Way saves the community thousands of dollars by consolidating fund raising efforts, providing a clear form of accountability, and investing in a diverse group of local non-profits. What better way than the United Way to reach this goal, giving through one agency to impact hundreds of thousands of residents, here at home. By giving to the United Way of South Texas (serving Hidalgo and Starr

Counties) you are “Making lasting changes right here where YOU LIVE, what matters”. The United Way of South Texas can help you plan and implement a campaign in your company.
100 % Of Your United Way gift remains in Hidalgo & Starr Counties. United Way of South Texas funds over 100 programs through 21 Partner Agencies and six Community Impact Grant recipients. Through these programs, we are helping youth succeed, strengthening and supporting families, employment placement for the disabled, elderly assistance, emergency shelter, CPR training, and many other critical services.

United Way’s 2026 Day of Caring – “FreshStart” Starr County Event brought incredible energy and purpose to the community! More than 70 volunteers came together to pack essential school supplies, highlighters, pens, pencils, notebooks, dividers, index cards, folders, and copy paper into bags for incoming Starr County freshmen.
🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹
Created in 2011, Day of Caring - Project "FreshStart" was launched to provide high school freshmen with the tools they need to begin their academic journey confidently, helping reduce dropout rates and strengthen long‑term Youth Opportunities.

Thank you to Starbucks, H‑E‑B, Medina Electric, International Paper and Penko Viejo for being proud sponsors of this year’s event.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize that mental health is essential to overall well-being, just like physical health.

Across Texas, individuals and families face challenges that can feel overwhelming, but no one has to navigate them alone. United Ways are committed to strengthening access to mental health resources, expanding 2-1-1 support services, and investing in programs that promote resilience, connection, and care in our communities.

This month, we encourage you to check in; with yourself and with others. A simple conversation can make a meaningful difference.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available. Dial 2-1-1 to connect with local resources across Texas 💚
