This event brings us together to raise awareness about elder abuse prevention, neglect, and exploitation and to support efforts that protect and empower older adults in our region. Your participation helps strengthen education, advocacy, and community action!

United Way’s 2026 Day of Caring – “FreshStart” Starr County Event brought incredible energy and purpose to the community! More than 70 volunteers came together to pack essential school supplies, highlighters, pens, pencils, notebooks, dividers, index cards, folders, and copy paper into bags for incoming Starr County freshmen.

Created in 2011, Day of Caring - Project "FreshStart" was launched to provide high school freshmen with the tools they need to begin their academic journey confidently, helping reduce dropout rates and strengthen long‑term Youth Opportunities.

United Way of South Texas is proud to award an $11,000 Community Impact Grant to the PossAble Dream Foundation, supporting The PossAble Dream Adult High School! 🎓✨
The grant, presented in early May, will fund graduation regalia and industry-based certifications to empower students in celebrating their achievements and stepping confidently into their futures.

United Way of South Texas brought together regional leaders for a powerful strategic planning retreat, joined by our border partners: United Way of Northern Cameron County, United Way of Southern Cameron County, and United Way of Laredo. 📑🗂️
Stephanie O’Banion, Director of Statewide Initiatives at United Ways of Texas, facilitated the sessions, focused on community impact and priority investments through 2030. 📊 This collaborative effort reinforces our shared commitment to building a stronger, more connected Rio Grande Valley.

United Way of South Texas proudly honored the incredible Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Site Coordinators and Volunteers who dedicated their time to provide free tax preparation services for households earning $67,000 or less. Their commitment helped thousands of families access refunds, claim credits, and achieve greater Financial Security, all at no cost.

The United Way VITA Site Coordinators and AmeriCorps Members concluded the tax season with a well-deserved bowling celebration! After months of hard work serving families across South Texas, it was wonderful to see our team enjoy themselves and celebrate another successful year of the VITA Program.

A huge THANK YOU to all the community members! Your support helps us continue offering free, reliable tax preparation services to thousands of families each year.
