Thinking about starting a book club or keeping yours going? Lit Kits from McAllen Public Library make it easy 📚

Each kit comes with up to 10 copies of a book, plus discussion questions and author info, so you’re all set for a good conversation. You can borrow a kit for 6 weeks, just bring your MPL card and check one out @ Main Library.

Lords and ladies of all ages may enter our costume contest at our Summer Kick-Off Ren Faire happening at Main Library. Whether you arrive as a noble knight, mystical fairy, daring rogue, or member of the royal court, we welcome your creativity and flair.

Registration: Ends on Friday, May 29
Cosplay Contest Date: Saturday, June 6

Costumes will be judged on creativity, originality, and overall presentation. Participants of all ages are encouraged to join the fun!

TBT to 1950, when the former Main Library, McAllen Memorial Library on Main Street, first opened its doors.

It may be nearly 15 years since Old Main closed, but many of us still carry fond memories of it. From the Old Main Library to the library system we know today, generations of readers, students, and families have walked through our doors.

This evening! Valley Roots Series returns to Main Library on Thursday, May 28 at 7PM with Black Soldiers of South Texas, presented by historian Charles Waite. This evening program will explore the history of African American military service in South Texas, highlighting the stories, challenges, and contributions of soldiers whose impact helped shape communities across the region.

Medicaid & CHIP Application Assistance will be available at Main Library in Study Room 1 on Monday, June 1 from 1:00-4:30PM. Community Action Corporation of South Texas will be on site to assist patrons by appointment or walk in, offering one-on-one guidance to help determine eligibility, explain program benefits, and ensure applications are completed accurately.
