On Sept. 17, 2026, residents may experience low water pressure to no water at multiple locations starting at 8 a.m. and lasting until noon. This is for hydrant flushing and routine waterline maintenance. Affected areas will include:
• Airport Drive
• Steven Taylor Boulevard
• North Joy Street and West Ashland Avenue
• North 10th Street and East Tyler Avenue
• 1200 block of South Elm Street
• 410 block of East Miami Avenue

Beginning Monday, Sept. 21, the west entrance to Oak Hill Cemetery near the cemetery sexton’s office will be closed for approximately 10 days while newly poured concrete cures.

Visitors should use another cemetery entrance during the closure.

The City of McAlester appreciates your patience while this improvement is completed.

A contractor struck a 6-inch water line near Second Street and Adams Avenue.

Customers along Second Street between Adams Avenue and Madison Avenue may experience low water pressure or a brief interruption in service while crews make repairs.

Work is beginning now and is expected to take approximately one to two hours.

The City of McAlester appreciates residents’ patience while repairs are completed.

Beginning Tuesday morning, Sept. 15, B Street will be closed between Electric Avenue and Taylor Avenue for work related to DWSRF Project No. 19A.

The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately three to four days. Local traffic will be allowed for residents within the affected area.

Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route and use caution around the work zone.

Thank you for your patience as crews continue infrastructure improvements in the area.

🎬 WHAT DOES FILM FRIENDLY MEAN?

McAlester Tourism has been working toward becoming an Oklahoma Film Friendly Community.

The statewide program helps communities prepare for film and television productions before a crew ever arrives.

That means putting things in place such as:
🎥 A local point of contact for productions
📋 A clear filming permit and process
📍 Identifying potential filming locations
🤝 Connections to local resources and support
🏙️ A community better prepared to work with a production when an opportunity comes along

More than 40 Oklahoma communities have already earned Film Friendly certification.

Hosting the LOST IN production gave McAlester an opportunity to put some of that preparation into practice and learn firsthand what working with a professional crew actually looks like.

The goal isn’t to promise that the next movie or television series is coming to McAlester.

It’s to make sure McAlester is ready when the right opportunity does.

The City of McAlester is responding to a water line break on Tyler Avenue as of noon Sept. 13, 2026.

Water service is expected to be affected along Tyler Avenue from approximately D Street to B Street, including the area near Hickory Street.

Crews estimate repairs will take approximately two to four hours.

We appreciate your patience while crews work to restore service.

Crew are responding Sept. 13, 2026 to a 12-inch waterline break near New Baker Road and Old Baker Road, approximately 500 feet south of the intersection. Water has been shut off while repairs are underway.

The break is affecting Rural Water District No. 7, New Baker Road, Old Baker Road and the Industrial Park area. Customers near the break should expect little to no water, while customers in the Industrial Park and along Highway 31 west of the Turnpike may experience lower water pressure.

The Industrial Park and Highway 31 area are currently being supplied through the City’s Seminole water tower.

Repairs are estimated to take approximately four hours.
