AVOID Scams: Four Signs That It’s a Scam

Scammers PRETEND to be from an organization you know, such as the federal government, utility company, or charity. They use technology to change the phone number that appears on your caller ID. Protect yourself by blocking unwanted calls and text messages.
Scammers say there’s a PROBLEM or a PRIZE. They might say you’re in trouble with the government, you owe money, or a family member had an emergency. Or that there’s a virus on your computer or a problem with one of your accounts, or that you won money…but have to pay a fee to get it. Don’t give your personal or financial information in response to a request that you didn’t expect.
Scammers PRESSURE you to act immediately. Scammers want you to act before you have time to think. If you’re on the phone, they might tell you not to hang up, so you can’t check out their story. They may threaten you. Anyone who pressures you to pay or give them your personal information is a scammer.
Scammers tell you to PAY in a specific way. They often insist that you can only pay by using cryptocurrency, wiring money through a company like MoneyGram or Western Union, or putting money on a gift card and then giving them the numbers on the back of the card.
Think it may be a scam? Stop and talk to someone you trust. Talking about it could help you realize it’s a scam.

Interstate 79 Northbound Closed in Erie County

Speed Restrictions in Effect on all Regional Interstates

Oil City, PA – A portion of Interstate 79 northbound in Erie County is closed due to a motor vehicle crash.

The highway is closed near Exit 174 (McKean) and traffic is being detoured using the exit ramp.

The closure will remain in effect until the scene has been cleared.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, but those who must head out will see speeds remain reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

Interstate 79 from the Interstate 80 interchange in Mercer County to the end point in Erie County.
Interstate 80 from the Ohio State line to Exit 97 (Route 219, Dubois/Brockway) in Clearfield County.
Interstate 86 from the Interstate 90 interchange to the New York state line.
Interstate 90 from the Ohio state line to the New York state line.
Interstate 376 from the Interstate 80 interchange to Exit 13A (Route 224, Poland) in Lawrence County.

On roadways with speed restrictions, commercial vehicles not affected by restrictions on these or other roads must move to the right lane.

Although PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, and they will not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

While PennDOT recommends not traveling during winter storms, motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras.
