We urge all of our residents to take the time today and this evening to prepare for this potentially dangerous storm!

Weather Alert: Our area has been upgraded to a BLIZZARD WARNING from 1pm tomorrow, 2/22 to 6pm Monday, 2/23. We will experience 14-20” of heavy, wet snow & wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible.

❄️ Total snow: 14-20", locally 24"+

💨 Wind gusts: 50 mph

Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages.

The time to prepare is now!

Maywood volunteer firefighters are currently out throughout town ensuring hydrants are clear of snow and ice. Reminder that this is the property owners responsibility per borough ordinance subject to a $200 fine. More importantly it ensurea a water source firefighters if your house or neighbors is on fire. Please take a few extra minutes to clear your hydrants when cleaning your sidewalks and driveways.

Reminder of the borough ordinance requiring removal of snow around fire hydrants on your property. This is property owners responsibility. The seconds you save the fire department having to find and dig out a hydrant could be the seconds that save a life!

[Amended 12-13-1994 by Ord. No. 20-1994]
A.
Every person, owner, tenant or occupant of improved or unimproved premises or property abutting upon any public street shall remove or cause to have removed all snow and ice from such abutting sidewalks and any and all depressed curbs that may intersect two streets at a corner property; and any fire hydrant which abuts the property, so as to allow free passage of pedestrians and access to any fire hydrant within 12 hours of daylight after the same shall fall or be formed thereon. In the event that snow or ice has fallen or been formed upon any property as hereinabove set forth and is so frozen or impacted as to make removal impractical in the judgment of the Building Subcode Inspector, Public Works Manager, members of the Fire Prevention Bureau or member of the regular Maywood Police Department, then the owner, tenant or occupant thereof, as required, shall forthwith cause said snow or ice to be thoroughly covered with clean sand, ashes, sawdust or rock salt within 12 hours of daylight after the accumulation or formation of such snow or ice.

On behalf of the Maywood Fire Department It is with deep regret that we announced the passing of George Steger.  George has served with a Maywood Fire Dept for 71 years. It was an honor to have you part of this Fire Department. George rest in peace. We will take it from here. More information to follow. 

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of George Steger. George was 102 years old when he passed on to the next life last night surrounded by family and friends. George was the longest standing member of Protection Hook & Ladder Co 1 of the Maywood Fire Department where he selflessly devoted over 71 years of his life to the people of the borough. During that time George held many roles including: Captain, Lieutenant, Treasurer, and Safety Officer. We ask that you keep George and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. Arrangement details will be announced soon. Please standby until that time. Rest in peace George we will take it from here.
