What a great night celebrating Supportive Housing Week with our Broadview community!

Our Community Block Party brought neighbors together for an evening of good food, music, family fun, and connection. We are so grateful to the local nonprofits and community organizations who joined us to share resources and services with residents.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the evening so special, and to our partners, volunteers, vendors, performers, and the Village of Broadview for helping bring it all together.

A special thanks to the Broadview Park District, That's My DJ Entertainment, Verizon, SBC Waste Solutions Inc., and First Independence Bank. Photo credit: Paul Goyette Photography

We’re proud to celebrate a community that shows up for one another 🎉

Many families have already been impacted by SNAP cuts due to the new work requirements. If they no longer qualify for SNAP, it may become more difficult to access free or reduced meal programs at school.

If you need assistance applying for SNAP or Link, the Greater Chicago Food Depository is an IDHS SNAP Support Provider for Cook County. Click here for SNAP resources and application assistance: https://www.chicagosfoodbank.org/get-help/benefits-outreach/

Cuts to the nation’s largest food assistance program will likely spill over into schools, causing students to lose access to free breakfast and lunch. More than 1 million American children have lost access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, following a recent federal law.

We didn't let the heat stop us from having an amazing time at our annual staff picnic! The CARE team planned the grooviest 70s themed picnic with music, games, and lots of laughter. Thank you, CARE team for putting together another wonderful staff event.

💜 Governor JB Pritzker has proclaimed August 31 as International Overdose Awareness Day in Illinois.

Today, we remember those whose lives have been lost to overdose, support individuals and families impacted by loss, and reaffirm that overdose deaths are preventable.

Carrying naloxone can save a life. Illinois' Good Samaritan Law allows anyone to be trained to carry and administer naloxone without liability, and most insurance plans cover the cost. Naloxone is available at pharmacies and Illinois Drug Overdose Prevention Programs (DOPPs).

To learn more or find naloxone near you, contact the Illinois Helpline at 833-234-6343, text HELP to 833234, or visit https://helplineil.org/.

Please join us in welcoming Stuart Schwadron to the Housing Forward Board of Directors! Stuart initially connected with Housing Forward through his wife Robin, and the OPWG Oak Park Women's Guild. With his employer, RATIONAL AG, Stuart has provided hundreds of meals for the guests in our shelter programs. When we began construction at the Anderson Emergency Shelter, he was instrumental in outfitting the kitchen with professional equipment. Stuart was also recognized as the Housing Forward Volunteer of the Year during Volunteer Appreciation Week 2026. He joined the board to continue supporting Housing Forward's efforts to end homelessness.

Please join us in welcoming Annie Fambro to the Housing Forward Board of Directors! Annie is a program manager with Fresenius Medical Care. Her role has provided insight into the average person's experience with healthcare and insurance. Annie joined the board because she believes safe housing is a human right and she feels connected to Housing Forward's holistic approach.

"Housing Forward helps people navigate the health and social services that stability depends on. This is the work I know best."

Our Back to School Backpack Drive was a great success! We collected over 200 backpacks to support the kids in our programs. We're so grateful to everyone who donated a backpack or gift card for uniforms. A special thanks to F3 for spending a Saturday morning packing bags for 20 students!
