The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office partnered with the Margate City Police Department, the Atlantic County Office on Aging, the New Jersey State Police, and the FBI to present an informative elder abuse and scam awareness program for senior citizens at the JCC in Margate.

Attendees learned how to recognize common fraud schemes, protect themselves from financial exploitation, identify warning signs of elder abuse, and report suspicious activity. The presentation also provided valuable resources available to seniors and their families throughout Atlantic County.

Detective Kim McColligan joined the program as a guest speaker, sharing her knowledge and experience regarding elder abuse investigations and the importance of recognizing and reporting scams targeting older adults.

The program also featured a K-9 demonstration by Atlantic County Sheriff’s Officer April Kelso and K-9 Zara, highlighting how specially trained detection dogs assist law enforcement in identifying currency that may be connected to criminal activity.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office congratulates Detective Gianna Marino on graduating from the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Course for Investigators on June 9, 2026.

Detective Marino earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Monmouth University and began her career with our office as an Agent in September 2024. After successfully completing the rigorous training program, she is prepared to continue serving the citizens of Atlantic County in her role as a Detective.

This morning Egg Harbor Township High School presented their annual mock car crash simulation for its senior class during their prom and graduation season. The demonstration, widely considered one of the best in the state, features a crash scene aided by the Egg Harbor Township Police, New Jersey State Police, the Office of the Medical Examiner, EMT personnel and the local fire department.

ACPO's Lieutenant Jim Rosiello and Detective Chelsea Burns discussed the importance of decision-making and spoke of real-life fatal crash situations in Atlantic County while presenting statistics and vital information regarding safe driving and ways to significantly decrease the likelihood of causing an avoidable crash.

Members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office proudly participated in the 43rd Annual New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run, joining law enforcement officers from across the state in support of Special Olympics New Jersey.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness and fundraising event for Special Olympics, with officers carrying the “Flame of Hope” through communities across New Jersey to help raise funds and promote inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

We are honored to support the athletes of Special Olympics New Jersey and be part of a tradition that celebrates courage, determination, and the power of community.

Our Internet Safety presentations for the 2025–2026 school year concluded at Cedar Creek High School, where Detective Nina Michell and Agent Morgan Woerner spoke with students about online safety, responsible social media use, cyberbullying, digital footprints, online predators, and current internet-related threats facing young people today.

Throughout the school year, our outreach team visited schools across Atlantic County to help educate students, parents, and staff on staying safe online and making informed decisions in an increasingly digital world.

With prom weekend approaching, Prosecutor William Reynolds, Lieutenant James Rosiello, and Detective Chelsea Burns joined HERO Campaign founder Bill Elliott to deliver a powerful presentation to junior and senior students at Mainland Regional High School about the devastating consequences of impaired driving.

The presentation highlighted real fatal crash investigations handled by our office that were caused by drunk and drug-impaired driving, putting a local perspective on the tragic and often irreversible impact these decisions can have on individuals, families, and entire communities.

Students also heard from Bill Elliott, who shared the heartbreaking story of his son, Navy Ensign John R. Elliott, who was killed by a drunk driver just two months after graduating from the United States Naval Academy. In honor of John’s memory, the Elliott family established the HERO (Honoring Every Responsible Officer) Campaign, which promotes the use of designated drivers and responsible decision-making.

Their advocacy led to the creation of New Jersey’s “John’s Law” in 2001, which requires law enforcement officers to notify individuals arrested for DWI that they have the right to make a phone call and provides information on transportation alternatives, helping prevent additional impaired driving incidents.

As students prepare to celebrate this milestone, we encourage everyone to make responsible choices, plan ahead, and remember that one decision can save a life.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office recently welcomed students from Mainland Regional High School for an educational field trip focused on careers in law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Students had the opportunity to observe a K-9 demonstration presented by the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office, learn about the use of drones in law enforcement, hear from Prosecutor William E. Reynolds and Chief of Staff Michael Kane about the role of the Prosecutor’s Office and careers in public service, observe live court proceedings, and participate in a forensics and explosives demonstration led by Sergeant Dave Gazarra & Detective Michael Kerley.

The visit concluded with a Lunch & Learn panel featuring Assistant Prosecutor Hess and Detective Peeke, who spoke with students about their experiences working in the field of criminal justice.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office would like to extend congratulations to our very own Chaplain Lou Strugala on receiving the Free to Be, Stigma Free Award earlier today at Stockton University.

The Free to Be, Stigma Free recognition highlights Chaplain Strugala's ongoing commitment to breaking down barriers, reducing social stigma surrounding mental health and vulnerability, and fostering a supportive environment for the Atlantic County community. His work establishes a safe, trusted space for guidance, wellness, and mutual respect.

Pastor Lou’s Church by the Bay makes a meaningful impact each week providing food, clothing, and care with creativity and commitment.

The pantry serves numerous families weekly, not just by distributing clothing onsite, but with volunteers preparing monthly outreach trailers to deliver essentials directly to nearby communities reducing the barriers to access.

The church also addresses homelessness by hosting events that connect unhoused individuals with resources like housing, legal aid and utility support. These events include hot meals, shower access and food pantry registration while providing a welcoming, supportive space.

Through consistent outreach and compassion, church by the bay shows how a small, dedicated group can create lasting impact. The church’s work reflects a strong commitment to dignity and care for all it serves as it continues to stand as a vital source of hope and stability in the region.
