Boil Water Notice lifted.

*Update*

To all residents being served by the Town of Mayo water system:

The town repaired a fire hydrant located at Martin Luther King and SW Alachua on Sunday July 12, 2026 at 10:00 pm. The water was turned off for the repair. You may experience low water pressure and no water close to fire hydrants that are being repaired.

As a precaution, we advise that all water used for drinking or cooking be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the maintenance and repairs have been completed and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.

Only customers served by the town of Mayo's water systems are affected.

Happy Fourth of July Weekend from Your Sheriff's Office!

As we celebrate the 250th anniversay of the signing of the Declaration of Indepenence, we want to wish everyone in our community a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend!

We are proud to serve this incredible community, proud to call this great state home, and proud to live in the greatest country in the world. This weekend, we celebrate not only our nation's independence, but the freedoms and opportunities that unite us as Americans.

Most importantly, we extend our deepest gratitude to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces past and present whose courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment have defended freedoms we celebrate throughout our nation’s 250-year history. We also remember the families who stand beside them and share in that sacrifice.

While you're spending the weekend with family and friends, please celebrate responsibly. Drive safely, never drink and drive or boat under the influence, keep an eye on your children, and be mindful of fireworks. A little extra caution can help ensure everyone enjoys a safe holiday weekend.

From all of us at the Sheriff's Office, thank you for allowing us the privilege of serving this amazing community. We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and memorable Fourth of July weekend.

Happy 250th, have a safe weekend.

Florida Forest Service fire crews continue to work on the South Canal Fire in Lafayette County. The District’s Mallory Swamp tract is open; however, work related to the South Canal Fire and an active timber harvest is ongoing. This means South Canal Road is still closed and visitors to the tract are encouraged to use caution when traveling.

ATV access remains closed at this time.

Here in Lafayette County, we understand the meaning of service and sacrifice.

This Memorial Day, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office proudly honors the brave men and women of our military who gave their lives for our country. We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the families who continue to carry their memory.

May we never forget the true purpose of this day.

MISSING JUVENILE

Alana L. Dawson
DOB: 09/19/2008
Alana was last seen wearing a dark gray American Eagle shirt, blue jeans, pink socks, and white Crocs. She left her home in Mayo on Saturday, May 23, at approximately 2:00 PM to walk to Family Dollar, but never arrived. Her guardians do not know where she may be at this time.
If anyone has seen Alana or has any information regarding her whereabouts, please contact the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
