DPW - DISCOLORATION UPDATE

We have received several reports of discoloration throughout the southern portion of Town, particularly around Old Marlboro Rd. While we were able to reach a safe capacity level, doing so required us to bring online wells that have historically caused discoloration. This is the source of the recent discoloration. We have since reduced output from these wells, but if capacity levels drop again, we may need to increase it once more.

We appreciate residents continuing to report discoloration through our online form (https://www.townofmaynard-ma.gov/550/Discolored-Water-Report-Form). This helps us track the issue and provides valuable data as we continue working with state and federal government on funding.

The Town of Maynard commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks this morning at the Maynard Fire Station.

The faded American flag you see in the photos/videos contains the names of the 2,977 who we lost that day.

You will also see a video of MFD needing to deploy in the middle of the ceremony, which serves as a reminder of the perpetual service that our first responders provide to keep us safe and secure.

Recycling and Old Trash/Recycling Cart Recycling Drop Off Days are this Saturday, September 12. Drop off of old carts is free. Fees apply to all other recyclable items dropped off. See Recycling Drop Off Center | Maynard, MA for the list of accepted items and their associated fees. This Saturday is also a paper shredding day. Stapled paper or paper clipped paper is fine, but no binder clips or other hard objects, please. Payments must be made via check or credit card.

The Maynard Select Board, at their meeting on August 18, 2026, approved the Use of Town Property Application for the 34th annual Maynard Fest. The event will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9am-3:30pm at Memorial Park as well as on Nason Street (from Summer St. to Main St.) and Main Street (from Summer St. to Walnut St.). Residents should be aware that those portions of Nason Street and Main Street will be closed to traffic during the event. For additional information, please visit the Discover Maynard website.

Eversource Utility Work Update

Summer Street and Powder Mill Road– Eversource Gas subcontractors will be milling and paving sections of Summer Street between Florida Road and the Main Street Bridge and the Powder Mill Road/Waltham Street intersection the week of September 7th or 14th. Given the daily traffic at the intersections of Main Street / Summer Street and Powder Mill Road / Waltham Street, this work may be done during off-peak nighttime hours. DPW - NOTIFICATION - WATER BAN REDUCED TO RESTRICTION

Thank you to all residents for following the water emergency ban this weekend. The Town has reached sufficient storage capacity levels and will now be instituting a level 2 - Water Restriction. This restriction will allow for some outdoor use and all indoor uses. The pipe repair was completed last night, and water has been restored to all customers affected by the break. You may continue to notice some discoloration throughout the weekend. We want to say a huge "Thank you!" to everyone who has practiced conservation measures over the past 24 hours. Because of you, our storage levels are bouncing back faster than expected. Thanks to our amazing staff as well, we're on track to lift the conservation measures on Tuesday.

REMINDER: Trash and recycling services will be delayed by one day this week due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7th. Monday collections will occur on Tuesday, Tuesday pick-ups on Wednesday, etc. with Friday collections occurring on Saturday

Also, an important trash and recycling reminder:

Please honor the three-foot-or-more spacing between trash carts, recycling carts, and orange overflow bags. Tightly packed carts and orange bags make automated pick up difficult and time consuming, as our drivers need to exit the vehicle to space out your carts and bags in order to collect them. This creates significant delays, especially for neighborhoods collected later in the week, as well as a potential overtime costs. Please remind your friends and neighbors!

DPW – Emergency notification – Water and Sewer Department. We are reporting a major water main break on Thomas Street at the Summer Hill Glenn complex. Due to the severity of this issue, the towns water storage tanks lost over 1.5 million gallons, this is equivalent to 33% of our capacity. Our team has located the break and has isolated the system.

Due to the excessive loss of the towns water storage reserves, we are implementing a state of water emergency for the next 5 days. What does this mean to all residents. This means the following.

• NO outdoor water use.
• We are also requiring residents practice water conservation measures. Reduce the use of nonessential potable water. Essential use includes utilizing water for cooking and consumption and limiting use for bathing and laundry.

Why is this important for all customers to follow. The towns capability of reproducing and restoring this amount of water is very limited and could take weeks if we as a community do not conserve our use patterns. Our water system is also the source in which we provide the towns Fire department with water for fire suppression. This means we would put our emergency services at a greater risk of containing a fire if we do not restore our storage capacity in a timely manner.

This break is on private property, and our team is coordinating with the owner to expedite repairs. Water will be shut down at Sumer Hill Glenn and will impact residents at this facility. The severity of the break will have a major disturbance to the entire distribution system, and may cause the following throughout town, low water pressure, and discolored water.

We are asking all customers to work together as a community on these measures, and we appreciate your patience as crews work to reduce the impact of the emergency while working on conducting repairs as required.
