The Maynard Public Library proudly serves the community as a center for self-education, culture, recreation, and information for people of all ages. We hope that you will be a frequent visitor and user of our collections, programs, museum passes, and services. The Maynard Public Library is a member of the Minuteman Public Library Network, a consortium of 42 public and academic libraries in Eastern Massachusetts that share a common database and collaborate to provide information service to the region. The combined libraries of the network hold over 6 million items and are available to all library card holders, whether in person or through interlibrary transfer.

There are fourteen new bestsellers, ten new movies, one new audiobook, four new music CDs, nineteen new children's books, and 40 other new books, including two that are available online.

The new bestsellers this week include "A Court of Thorns and Roses 6," "All In," and "Split Second: Thirty-Two Switcheroo." The new movies this week include "Toy Story 5," "Moana," and "Outlander Season 8."

English Conversation Groups
Every Tuesday at 6pm!

This English class is for advanced beginners and intermediate level students. The class focuses on everyday words and idioms which students will likely hear in their daily lives. A topic for discussion is offered in each class. Grammar is not emphasized.

Vocabulary sheets are provided for every class and a dictionary of idioms is given at the end of the course. No homework is expected.

About the Teacher: Jeff Loeb
Jeff is a certified ESL teacher with over ten years with experience teaching adults English including the Hudson/Maynard Adult Learning Center (HMALC). He developed all the written materials provided in the class. Given his enthusiasm and experience, this course has been relevant and enjoyable.

The November theme is "An Adult Classic You've Never Read." Here are some suggested titles, though you're welcome to choose others. You can borrow your chosen book for free through the library or consider purchasing it via the Bookshop link provided at the Massachusetts Center for the Book website given below.

Join Solar System Ambassador David S. Ball for his presentation, "High Gate to Touchdown: Apollo 11’s final descent to the surface of the Moon." Learn why none of the landings that could have been done on autopilot ever were and how the Mark 1 eyeball kept the mission from ending in certain failure. Led by David Ball, who served 26 years in the US Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, and is a now a volunteer educator with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Join us for an author talk and Q&A with Maia Kobabe, author of Gender Q***r: A Memoir. The author will make a virtual appearance and will answer selected questions submitted in advance. Copies of the book will be available for sale from Felixology bookstore at the event. Also, free copies will be available at the event (one copy per attendee, while supplies last) and were made possible by donation from Steve and Lizza Smith of Smith & Finley Homes.

Kobabe (who uses e/em/eir pronouns) has written a cathartic autobiography which charts eir journey of self-identity. Started as a way to explain to eir family what it means to be nonbinary and asexual, Gender Q***r is more than a personal story: it is a useful and touching guide on gender identity--what it means and how to think about it.
