FRIDAY 5 | September 11, 2026 - Here are five things to know in Mayfield Heights this Friday.

1. We Remember. We Honor. We Will Never Forget.
Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. In remembrance of that tragic day and in honor of the thousands of lives lost, our First Responders displayed a ladder truck, police cruisers, and Service Department trucks in front of the Fire Department bays.

Twenty-five years later, we remember those who lost their lives, their families and loved ones, and the first responders and ordinary Americans who demonstrated extraordinary courage that day. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

2. Tired of Solicitors Knocking at Your Door?
Mayfield Heights residents can sign up for the NOPEC Do Not Knock Program. The program helps residents let door-to-door solicitors know that they don't wish to be disturbed.

3. Decorate. Celebrate. Cast Your Vote!
Mayor Snider is proud to announce the 2026 Mayfield Heights Home Decorating Contests! Get those decorating ideas flowing because we're planning contests for both Halloween and the holiday season. Two contests. Four winners. And, of course, community bragging rights! Details for the Halloween Home Decorating Contest will be announced in October. Watch the City's social media, website, and Community Channel for information about how to enter and vote.

4. Shredding & Recycling Day Is TOMORROW!
Don't forget! Shredding and Recycling Day is tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at the tennis/pickleball courts on Marsol Road. Have items you've been meaning to safely shred or recycle? Tomorrow is your chance.

Today, we remember September 11, 2001, and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who answered the call, and all those forever impacted by that day.

In this remembrance video, Mayor Diane Snider, Fire Chief Bruce Elliott, Police Chief Anthony Mele, Firefighter Zach Broyles, a United States Navy veteran, and Police Sergeant Joe Moran, a United States Marine Corps veteran, share where they were on September 11 and reflect on how that day shaped their lives and commitment to service.

Their reflections remind us why we must continue to honor those we lost and ensure their memory lives on for generations to come.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

It was a special milestone for the Mayor and, most importantly, a joyful new beginning for newlyweds Dorothy Bright and Herbert Hood. Please join us in congratulating Dorothy and Herbert and wishing them a lifetime of love, laughter, and happiness together!

3. Labor Day Reminders!
City offices will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day, a national holiday recognizing the contributions and achievements of American workers.

Garbage & Recycling Reminder: Collection will be delayed one day during the week of September 7–11. Please place containers out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before your pickup day.

4. 🚌 School Is in Full Swing – Please Drive with Care!
With students back in school, our streets are once again busy with school buses, bus stops, crosswalks, walkers, and bicyclists. Please slow down, stay alert, and allow extra time—especially during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.

Know the School Bus Safety Laws:
🟡 Flashing Amber Lights: When a school bus activates its amber/yellow lights, it is preparing to stop. Drivers are not yet required to stop but should slow down and prepare to stop.

đź”´ Flashing Red Lights & Stop Arm: Once the bus stops, the red lights begin flashing and the stop arm extends. Drivers required by law to stop must remain at least 10 feet from the bus until the bus begins moving again or the driver signals traffic to proceed.

On roads with fewer than four lanes: Traffic approaching from both directions must stop.

On roads with four or more lanes: Only traffic traveling in the same direction as the school bus must stop.

Never attempt to pass a stopped school bus when you are required to stop, and watch carefully for children crossing the street. Please do your part to keep our kids safe.
