It’s all coming together!

Don’t forget — TOMORROW, April 25th is the May VFD BBQ!

We’ll be serving up some of the best BBQ in Northern Brown County, complete with all the fixings — donations only.

We’ve also got something special for the kids — they’ll get the chance to spray some water and check out the trucks, so bring the whole family!

It’s going to be a beautiful day, and we’ll have silent auction items, including handmade leather works from Kaysen King.

There will truly be something for everyone. Come out, enjoy some great food, and help support your May Volunteer Fire Department! 🚒❤️

🚨 Wildfire Risk Increasing Across Texas – Protect Your Home Now 🚨

A dome of high pressure over Texas is bringing hot, dry March weather, creating dangerous fire conditions across much of the state. With accelerated drying already underway, grasses and vegetation in the High Plains, Caprock, Rolling Plains, Cross Timbers, Eastern Hill Country, and Southern Plains are becoming critically to extremely dry.

🔥 What to expect:
-Saturday (March 21): Near record-breaking temperatures, very low humidity, and poor overnight moisture recovery will continue to dry fuels.
-Saturday & Sunday (March 21–22): Winds increase as weather patterns shift, raising the risk for rapid fire spread if an ignition occurs. Even with lighter winds earlier in the week, a single spark in grass, brush, or juniper can grow quickly, especially in areas with heavier fuel loads.

🏡 Now is the time to protect your home and property:
-Clear dry grass, leaves, and debris from around your home.
-Create and maintain defensible space at least 30 feet from structures.
-Secure trailers, chains, or equipment that could create sparks.
-Avoid outdoor burning and be extra cautious with any activity that could start a fire.

⚠️ Fire conditions can change fast, and preparation makes all the difference. Stay aware, stay prepared and stay informed. Protect Texas, Prevent Wildfires.

Mark your calendars to get signed up for the NEW Emergency Alert System on April 11 at the May VFD from Noon to 5 pm!

🔥🌧️ Reminder: Wildfire Danger Can Return Quickly—Even After Rain! 🌲🔥

Rain can make things feel safer, but wildfire risk often bounces back fast. In Texas heat and wind, grasses and brush can dry out in just a short time, creating fuel for wildfires.

Stay wildfire aware even after rainfall:
🌿 Don’t rely on recent rain — vegetation dries quickly
🍂 Clear debris like leaves, branches, and dry grass off roofs and gutters
🏠 Maintain defensible space around your home
🔥 Be cautious with outdoor equipment
📺 Check local burn bans and fire restrictions
☎️ Report smoke or suspicious fire activity right away

Rain helps—but it doesn’t eliminate the risk. Staying prepared keeps Texas communities safer all year long.
