Update to May 5th incident on I-64

Evergreen Environmental crews remained in the vicinity throughout the night changing booms in the storm drainage chute as well as in Howards Creek. As of 10 am this morning their crews were also skimming the upstream portions of both hard booms that were placed in Howards Creek yesterday by the WV DEP response team. An underflow dam was constructed yesterday near the end of the drainage chute, and it has been highly successful in collecting fuel that was coming from the storm drain culvert under the interstate. This dam will remain in place and continue to gather any additional fuel that travels down the chute. The WV DEP will continue to monitor any effects to Howards Creek and imitate any needed response accordingly. WV DEP will also be overseeing the repair of any creek banks impacted by this event.

Additional updates will be provided as needed.
