Our hearts are heavy hearing of the passing of the great Lee Allen Zeno. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in Power!

Our hearts are heavy this blue Monday at the news that the versatile Lee Allen Zeno - Bass Player passed away Sunday, May 3 at age 71. Beyond his song credits on recordings for artists as varied as Charlie Rich, Irma Thomas and father-and-son Grammy winners Buckwheat Zydeco and Reggie Dural a.k.a. Buckwheat Zydeco Jr., he touched many lives as a member of the Blue Monday: Blue Monday Concert Series All-Stars, a teacher in the UL Lafayette Traditional Music program and, as Herman Fuselier wrote last month in a tribute column for The Acadiana Advocate, "a sideman...who makes the stars sound great but rarely gets the spotlight."

You'll hear more on KRVS about Mr. Lee in the days ahead. For now, we send condolences to the many people who knew, played alongside, learned from and loved him.

We may be a little late… but excellence is always right on time.

The African American Heritage Gala & Parade is all about celebrating the individuals who uplift, inspire, and strengthen our community. Each year, we honor those who make a lasting impact—leaders, trailblazers, and everyday heroes whose work does not go unnoticed.

Today, we’re proud to introduce our 2026 Honorees. 🎉
Through this video series, you’ll get a closer look at the stories, the service, and the legacy behind each honoree.

Join us as we celebrate their contributions and continue the tradition of honoring Black excellence, culture, and community.

Stay tuned, watch, and help us celebrate by liking, sharing, and showing these incredible individuals some love!

Congratulations to Al Thomas! Well deserved!

During the African American Heritage Parade, members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) didn’t just celebrate our culture — they invested in our future by handing out books to children along the parade route.

What a powerful reminder that our parades are not only about the music, the marching bands, and the celebration of heritage — they are also about educating, empowering, and inspiring the next generation.

Every book placed in a child’s hands is a seed planted for knowledge, confidence, and possibility.

Thank you to the NPHC Divine Nine organizations for helping make literacy part of the celebration and for continuing the tradition of service, leadership, and uplift in our community.

Because when we celebrate our culture and our children’s minds…
our legacy grows stronger.
