~Visit to Onondaga County EM Office~

On Saturday April 25th, the Mattydale Junior Fire Department took a trip to the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Management. The junior members were able to understand what the Emergency Management Department does and the resources they are able to provide. We would like to the thank OEM for their hospitality, and allowing us to come tour the facility and show how much support OEM is able to give to departments.

~Supporting the Mattydale Junior Fire Department~

Tomorrow is the day! We are reaching out to ask for your support of our incredible Junior Fire Department program.

The funds raised during this event will directly benefit our members by allowing us to purchase essential gear that cannot be obtained through donations. Your contributions help provide our junior members with professional uniforms and fund educational trips to historic sites, such as the 9/11 Memorial in New York City and the FASNY Museum of Firefighting near Albany—where a piece of our own local history is proudly on display.

Outside of special fundraising events, our program relies heavily on bottle and can donations. You can show your support tomorrow by enjoying a meal at Panera Bread, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to our team.

Join Our Team!
We are always looking for motivated individuals between the ages of 13 and 18 to join our ranks.
* Ages 13–15: Learn the fundamentals of fire service and teamwork.
* Ages 16–18: Become a Restricted Access Member (RAM). In this role, you will have the opportunity to ride fire apparatus to active emergencies and assist with vital tasks on the scene.
Please note: You do not have to be a Mattydale resident to participate.

If you or someone you know is interested in making a difference, please reach out to us for more information or to request an application. Thank you for supporting the next generation of first responders!

~Syracuse Fire Hazmat~

Over the last month The Mattydale Junior Fire department has been focusing on how to utilize an ERG, identifying hazards, inital evacuation and isolation procedures and metering. The juniors participated in, in house scenarios involving hazardous materials where they were tasked with “responding to a hazardous materials related incident and needed to work together to identify and mitigate the hazard which could include requesting the Syracuse Fire Department Hazmat Team.

All the training lead up to today where our juniors and advisors took a trip to Syracuse Fire Department Station 5 where the Hazmat team is located. Where we were able to tour of Hazmat 1, 2 engine company 5, truck 3 and car 2, all vehicles used in a hazardous response. Thanks to the knowledge of these Syracuse firefighters we were able to understand and see the speicalized equipment, and how the hazmat team operates on a scene to completely mitigate the hazard in order to make it safe for the public once again.

We would like to thank the firefighters of Syracuse Fire Department Station 5 for taking time out of there day, being able to sharing their knowledge and equipment with our program. Our juniors learned a lot and enjoyed the experience!
