Please help us locate Mr. Hector Jose Colon (DOB - 11/03/1948), who was last seen on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 9:46 a.m., wearing a dark colored ball cap, silver glasses, a blue collared shirt, blue jeans, and grey sneakers (as pictured). He is known to frequent downtown Matthews.

As we near the end of Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to do our part to emphasize the importance of this year-round issue.

We want to thank Dr. Kareem Puranda of Self Talk Counseling & Consulting, PLLC, for taking the time to sit down for this episode, where we discuss mental health concerns for the public, but more specifically, mental health among police officers.

30 Year Celebration

Chief Avens was honored to be a guest speaker at the Mecklenburg County Government Child Development Community Policing Program's 30 year celebration. This was a moment to highlight the incredible impact that this program has had on the children of our county when they needed it the most.

This program establishes partnership between police officers and mental health clinicians to ensure coordinated, expert response for children impacted by trauma and their families.

Child Development Community Policing (CDCP) holds the core value that no child should have to wait for trauma-informed police response and coordinated clinical care
