Tonight, crews from the Mattawan Fire District spent the evening sharpening their skills performing aerial apparatus operations training. Training focused on safe and effective positioning, elevated master stream operations, ladder placement techniques, and coordinated teamwork while operating at height.

Regular hands-on training ensures our firefighters are prepared to operate efficiently and safely when called to emergencies involving rescues, large commercial incidents, and elevated fire attacks.

We are proud of the dedication our members continue to show in building and maintaining these critical skills for the communities we serve.

These hands-on scenarios focused on vehicle fire behavior, rapid fire attack, exposure protection, and operating safely around modern vehicle hazards. With newer materials and technologies in today’s vehicles, continuous training like this ensures our firefighters stay prepared for the challenges they may face on scene.

Training isn’t just practice—it’s how we make sure we’re ready when our community needs us most.

The Mattawan Fire District had a great time participating in Career Day at Mattawan Schools! 🚒
Our firefighters enjoyed spending the day talking with students about what it means to serve in the fire service and protect the community. From discussing fire trucks and equipment to explaining how teamwork, training, and dedication play a role in emergency response, it was a great opportunity to give students a look into the world of firefighting.
The curiosity and enthusiasm from the students made the day even more rewarding. Who knows — we may have met a few future firefighters in the making!
A big thank you to mattawan Schools for inviting us and allowing us to share our passion for public safety with the next generation. We always enjoy connecting with the community and inspiring young people to consider careers that make a difference.

The Mattawan Fire District spent time conducting long hose deployment training to prepare for fires in our rural response areas.
Rural firefighting presents unique challenges — extended driveways, limited hydrant access, and structures set far back from the roadway. These scenarios require precision, coordination, and the ability to deploy large-diameter and extended hose lays efficiently and effectively.
Our crews practiced long hose deployments to ensure we can quickly establish a sustainable water supply and deliver fire attack lines exactly where they’re needed — even when access is limited.
Training like this ensures that when the call comes in, we are ready to perform under pressure and protect our community — no matter how far off the road the emergency may be.

This week, our crew took advantage of our newest training tool — the Forcible Entry Door from Firehouse Innovations — to sharpen our skills and stay mission-ready.
We focused on forcible entry techniques while coupling the evolution with hose deployments, emphasizing speed, coordination, and efficient fireground operations.
Training like this helps ensure that when the call comes in, we’re prepared to make entry quickly, get water on the fire, and protect lives and property.
A big thank you to Firehouse Innovations for providing an outstanding prop that helps us bring realistic, hands-on training to our firefighters.
