Mattapoisett Council on Aging

Mattapoisett Council on Aging “We’ve all been aging since the day we were born, so aging is a good thing! It means we’re alive; so let’s get to living!”

The Mattapoisett Council on Aging (COA) is where people can help themselves to “live longer, stronger”. It is a place for people to socialize; to exercise; to learn; to get support; to borrow medical equipment; to access transportation, to get assistance & referrals (to include, but not limited to: fuel assistance applications, health insurance assistance, tax preparation services) and much more!

The Mattapoisett Council on Aging continues to evolve and to meet the many needs of our community. Located in the original building of Mattapoisett’s Center School at 17 Barstow St., the COA building is attached to the current elementary school. The COA is a community resource to enhance one's quality of life.

Hotter days are here. Stay safe and avoid heatstroke. Hot weather can be especially dangerous for older adults. Take simple steps to prevent heat-related illness and heat stroke:
💧 Drink water regularly—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay in air-conditioned spaces during the hottest part of the day.
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
🌳 Limit outdoor activities and seek shade when outside.
📞 Check in on family, friends, and neighbors during heat waves.
⚠️ Watch for warning signs of heat stroke:
• High body temperature
• Dizziness or confusion
• Rapid pulse
• Headache
• Nausea
If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move them to a cooler place while waiting for help.
Enjoy summer safely and make staying cool a priority! ❄️💙

We were honored to celebrate not one, but two incredible milestone birthdays with surprise parties for two very special residents—a 100th birthday celebration and a 90th birthday celebration! Both residents were completely surprised, making the moments even more memorable. The smiles, laughter, happy tears, and heartfelt embraces filled the room as friends, family, fellow residents, and COA staff members came together to honor these extraordinary individuals and the lives they have lived. Reaching these milestones is a gift, and we feel privileged to help make their special days unforgettable.
At the heart of what we do is celebrating the people who make our community so special. ✨Please join us in wishing these amazing residents a very happy 100th and 90th birthday!

This Friday, June 5th at 10:30 am, the COA will host Diane Botelho, a seasoned Nantucket bracelet instructor. Join her, as she walks you through the process of weaving your very own Nantucket light ship bracelet. Think of crafting a Nantucket bracelet as weaving a little piece of seaside history, right onto your wrist. While this craft is super rewarding, it definitely calls for a bit of “finger fitness”. It’s a workout for your hands that ends with a gorgeous piece of jewelry! You will choose from all natural materials or add a pop of color with dyed reeds. This is a small, intimate class. To register, questions, call the COA.
