Safety and Security of the entire educational community
I am passionate about ensuring our schools provide a safe environment for both students and educators. Dating back to my pre-pandemic volunteer service on the School Council, I have been steadfast in my focus on the safety of the entire educational community. For example, I partnered with then-administrators to creatively solve ways to move the OHS students and staff out of the building on presidential election days by utilizing a mix of field trips and assembly presentations housed at Center School. And more recently soliciting the support of school committee members across the three towns to help OHS address its unique voting challenge by putting a district-wide Professional Development day, which keeps children out of the building, on the first Tuesday in November. I can confidently say the buildings are more physically secure now than three years ago.

Financial Transparency and Sustainability
Since becoming Chairperson of the Mattapoisett School Committee in June 2022, I have worked to improve financial transparency and collaboration between the local schools and other town bodies. I have partnered with the Town Administrator to ensure compliance with our by-laws related to how appointments are made to the Finance and Capital Planning committees. The by-laws were crafted to foster collaboration, and I was honored to have served this past year as the representative of the local schools on the Capital Planning committee.

As I look forward, I believe this community must address its aging infrastructure, including the DPW building and the town hall as well as have an open dialogue about our shared use building (Center School). Having represented the Mattapoisett School Committee on the town-sponsored UMASS Collins School Consolidation Study for the past 9 months, I very much look forward to helping inform the community of the pertinent facts. It’s imperative that all townspeople be informed and engaged on the options available to the town as it relates to school consolidation. The official presentation from the Collins Center to the Select Board and Mattapoisett School Committee is scheduled for May 15th. I would encourage everyone to mark their calendars.

I also believe the families of school aged children have an unmet need in terms of before and after school care. This is a need that is well cared for in our neighboring towns through private partnerships within their local school buildings, but it is a gap here in Mattapoisett. As an example of my continuous efforts to find compromise and solutions, I believe there is an opportunity to make before and after school care available to families without compromising our core educational mission.

Literacy for all – I believe that reading is the gateway to learning, and we should be investing in the literacy of every young child in this community. Teaching science backed skills to every early learning is imperative to their overall student success. I am energized by the Administration’s efforts to seek out a literacy curriculum that will incorporate core fundamentals, including science-based components such as phonetics. Our schools have produced many avid readers, but there are gaps. And for the families of students who are struggling, more needs to be done. As a school committee member, I will continue to advocate for the literacy curriculum from PreK through Grade 6 and ensure funding is appropriated towards these critical needs.

Mattapoisett residents: I am seeking re-election to the Mattapoisett School Committee and would appreciate your vote on May 16th.
As a professional working mother of four young children below the age of 11 and ranging from pre-k to grade 5, I am deeply invested in the quality of education available to all students within the Mattapoisett Schools. With the support of my family, I am willing to continuing serving this beautiful community because I feel my background, my ability to collaborate, and my work ethic will be an asset to the town. There are many issues facing our students, our families, and our town; however, my top three areas of focus for the next term are:
1. Literacy for all!
2. Financial Transparency and Sustainability
3. Safety and Security of the entire educational community

I believe my background as an Actuary and as the current Head of Operations for a financial technology company would continue to be an asset to both the schools and the town over the next three years. While working as an Actuary, I was a member of the Society of Actuaries, which is a professional organization with a strict code of ethics, professionalism, and continuing education requirements. These core tenets are deeply engrained in me as an individual, as a parent, and as a community servant. Today, I oversee all Human Resources and Financial Operations for a 70+ person financial technology company. In my career as well as my service to our schools, I am willing to ask questions, listen, synthesize information, and ultimately make decisions.

During my first term, I had the distinct honor to serve the constituents of Mattapoisett in numerous capacities, including two years on the Policy Subcommittee, two years on the Budget Subcommittee, one year on the Superintendent Goals Subcommittee, and one year on the Capital Planning Committee. Over these past three years I have served on a number of administrative hiring committees, the Mattapoisett teachers negotiation subcommittee, and I have served on the town sponsored school facility study led by the UMass Collins Center.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. If you are only looking for a candidate who will restrict books, then I can honestly say I am not your candidate. I am a registered Independent who believes every single issue should be taken on its own merits. I believe our school district will best move forward focused on the three issues I have outlined.
