On behalf of the Mathiston Police Department and personally, I, Chief Barry Gregg, extend our sincerest condolences to the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the family of Deputy Rick Haggard. As a dedicated School Resource Officer, he touched the lives of countless students, teachers, and staff, leaving a lasting impact in the community he served. His passion for serving and protecting youth will never be forgotten. May the loss of a devoted officer, mentor, and friend bring us together in unity and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

*Winter Weather Advisory*

Dear Residents,

As we prepare for freezing rain, ice, and snow to impact our community beginning Friday, January 23, the Mathiston Police Department is working closely with Public Works and Emergency Management to ensure public safety and assist with response efforts.

To ensure everyone's safety, we kindly request that you:

- Stay home and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Reduced traffic will allow emergency vehicles to operate efficiently.
- Prepare your homes for the winter weather
- Check on your neighbors, especially the elderly and vulnerable
- Consider donating non-perishable food items to local food banks or shelters

*Important Safety Reminders:*

- Make sure to have batteries and flashlights ready in case of power outages
- Do not use generators inside your home or garage, as they can produce deadly carbon monoxide

Your cooperation and consideration will greatly aid in our efforts to keep our community safe. If you need assistance or have concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Stay safe and stay informed.

Sincerely,
Police Chief Barry Gregg
Mathiston Police Department
