🚨🔥 Fire Department Safety Alert🔥:🚒 Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Incident
At 3:09 this morning, our department was dispatched to an outdoor fire. Shortly after both Chiefs were en route, County Dispatch advised that a lithium-ion battery may be involved.

Upon arrival, the Chiefs confirmed it was a lithium-ion e-bike battery fire.
Thanks to the homeowner’s quick thinking and fast action with a garden hose, the fire was knocked down prior to our arrival and kept from spreading to patio furniture or the house itself. Great job by the resident!

Our crews remained on scene for over an hour, actively cooling the battery pack to prevent thermal runaway. Once the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal’s Office arrived, the scene was turned over to them.

Important Safety Reminders for All Residents:
👉Always store and charge lithium-ion battery-powered mobility devices (e-bikes, scooters, etc.) outside the home.
👉Never keep them inside your house or alongside it — and especially not in hallways or near exits.
👉Only have modifications or repairs performed by factory-authorized repair centers.
👉Always use factory-authorized and UL-approved parts and chargers.
Lithium-ion battery fires can ignite in seconds and spread extremely fast, involving large areas in a very short time.

🔥 Training Night Done Right! 🔥
Last night, our Mastic Beach Fire Department crew completed their 2nd live-fire training session of the year at the Suffolk County Fire Academy — tackling the challenging Taxpayer Drill.

This realistic scenario simulates a multi-occupancy commercial building with apartments/offices above. With a limited crew, our members simultaneously performed forcible entry, search & rescue, ventilation, and fire suppression — pushing hard and working smart.

Huge shoutout to the Mastic Beach Ambulance Company for standing by with us and watching over our members! Training alongside our EMS partners sharpens our teamwork and helps ensure we’re at our best when the community needs us most.

And in just one week… we’ll be right back at the Academy for more live-fire training! 💪

The Chiefs and Officers are extremely proud of this crew and the dedication they bring every single time.
