We made a stop at Mason and Leslie high schools to deliver congratulations and gift cards to the ICSO Art Competition winners!

They did amazing work, and we look forward to showcasing their pieces in our display case. Their art provides anyone visiting our training center something fun to look at during their breaks.

Thank you to everyone who submitted an art piece. We look forward to seeing what comes through next year!

We have recent reports of scammers claiming to work for the Sheriff's Office and pretending to be Sgt. Johnson, Sgt. Hicks, or Corporal Ryan Hagar. None of these names are associated with our office. One voice message asked the Ingham County resident to drive to the Sheriff’s Office to turn themselves in for a jury duty warrant. They said to meet them in the parking lot, that they would take custody of the individual, and impound their car, unless they paid. No law enforcement agency would call you and make these types of demands.

You may be able to recognize a scam call but teens and vulnerable adults may be easier to manipulate. Share this with loved ones and help them hang up on scam calls.

**Update**
Sheriff's Office personnel, including our Victim Advocate Unit, partnered with representatives of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to meet with the families of the men tragically killed yesterday on US-127 south of Holt Road.

They are identified as:
Bruce Wagner, 51 years old, of Mason, MI
Steve Spenle, 49 years old, of Mason, MI

We do not have an updated status on the motorist who was involved at this time.

We remind our public and fellow motorists to remain focused at all times while operating a motor vehicle. Our freeways and roads are always in need of repair. It is our duty to look out for and protect the men and women who facilitate those repairs.

On Tuesday, May, 26th, 2026 at 1:18 PM Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to northbound US127 near W Holt Rd for a report of a crash involving a passenger vehicle and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) construction workers.

A vehicle being driven by a 24-year-old Dewitt man lost control and struck two MDOT workers, a 49-year-old Mason man and a 51-year-old Mason man. Both of the MDOT workers died on scene. The Dewitt man was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Northbound US127 was shut down to safely provide life saving efforts and investigate the scene. It was reopened at 6:30pm.

Delhi Township Fire, Mason Fire, and MMR Ambulance responded. Our investigators were assisted by the Ingham Regional Crash Investigation Team. Responding members included the Meridian Twp. Police Department and Michigan State University Police Department. A thorough investigation is underway and will take time. Speed is believed to be a factor, preliminarily. Names will be withheld until satisfactory notifications of kin can be completed.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Deputy Martin at (517) 676-8444 ext. 1957.

Congratulations to the graduates of the 2026 ARISE LLC & GED Graduation Celebration!

On May 21, 2026, the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, Lansing School District, and Lansing Community College came together to celebrate the accomplishments of 11 incarcerated individuals alongside their friends and families.

Education continues to create opportunities for growth, personal achievement, and successful re-entry into the community. In 2026, 19 inmates have earned their GED while incarcerated, and since we partnered with Lansing Community College, two years ago, 53 inmates have completed various certification programs.

These accomplishments reflect the hard work and dedication of the graduates, as well as the commitment of staff, educators, and community partners who support rehabilitation through education.

Congrats to everyone involved in this incredible achievement!
