We are proud to congratulate our Vice President of Housing & Community Development, Shelley Oltmans, on graduating from Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI)'s, Leadership Iowa program!

Shelley was one of just 40 Iowans selected this year to take part in this 8-month long experience, deep diving into opportunities and challenges across the state. She's a standout leader here at the North Iowa Corridor and now she's part of a statewide network of over 1,500 Leadership Iowa alumni (including our very own Chad Schreck) driving positive change across the state.

We're lucky to have her and glad she could represent North Iowa!

Congratulations to our Business Relations Manager, Jenna Heiar, and the entire 2026 cohort on graduating from the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Lake Leadership program!

We may be biased but North Iowa has some truly outstanding leadership programs, and this is one of them. Good leaders are shaped by real experiences, real conversations, and a real understanding of the community around them; and this year's cohort got exactly that.

From walking the floors of McKesson, a facility that ships a third of the nation's pharmaceuticals, to visiting a working family farm like the McGrath Family's, participants saw firsthand the depth and diversity of what drives North Iowa's economy. The program ended with celebratory flights taken over Clear Lake itself.

Leadership grows here and we're proud to see it!

Child care isn’t just a family issue, it’s an economic one. That’s why our team continues to serve on the Child Care Works Collaborative, working with community partners to explore real solutions for our region.

We’re also proud to celebrate the impact of the Child Care Ready program led by NIACC Continuing Education, Mason City Community School District, and Iowa Child Care Resource & Referral. Dozens of local high school students have now completed 37+ hours of coursework and earned certification to prepare for careers in child care before ever stepping into a center. A huge win for our workforce pipeline.

To our childcare workers, thank you for being the glue that holds our workforce together.

Tonight, the Mason City Council will consider a rezoning request for an area the North Iowa Corridor has marketed as shovel-ready for more than a decade.

While tonight’s vote is about land use and zoning, we understand that many of the questions are being raised around data centers.

To be clear: at this time, there is no specific company, no signed agreement, and no approved project slated for this location. Rezoning is a long-term planning decision that prepares a site for potential future opportunities. It is not final project approval.

Over the years, this area has received interest from various types of industry. A data center has publicly expressed interest in Mason City, but there are currently no agreements in place.

We recognize that residents have questions about water, electricity, noise, jobs, and overall community impact. The overview below provides additional context as we consider future opportunities.
