Waking up to a bat in your bedroom is terrifying enough, but bat bites can be so small that you might not even feel them or see a puncture mark. Bat teeth are tiny and sharp, meaning an exposure can easily go unnoticed. If you wake up with a bat in the room, do not try to swat it out a window. Put on thick leather gloves, place a container over it, slide cardboard underneath, and get it tested for rabies. To provide faster protection against measles, pediatric vaccination schedules can be accelerated. Infants aged 6 to 11 months who are traveling internationally can receive an early dose, and children aged 1 to 6 years can get their second MMR dose just 28 days after their first. Contact your pediatrician or family doctor to discuss what schedule is right for your child. MMR vaccines are available through your regular healthcare provider or at CG Public Health. Book your child's visit online at https://bit.ly/4xVsr5z or call us at 641-421-9300.

White-nose syndrome is a cold-loving fungal disease impacting hibernating bats across Iowa. ❄️ The fungus wakes bats up too often during winter, burning their fat reserves and leading to starvation. 📉 People can accidentally transport this fungus on boots and gear when exploring caves. 🥾 Help stop the spread by cleaning outdoor gear and never touching bats. 🧼 Download the full Iowa wildlife and rabies safety guide: https://bit.ly/3UFvmRu 📖

We have great news to celebrate in Cerro Gordo County. CG Public Health has been awarded $317,344 in state grant funding to support our North Iowa Peer Connect program.

This funding strengthens our ability to walk alongside individuals in recovery, offering dependable guidance, meaningful connection, and community resources that support long-term stability and health. Lasting community health takes collaboration, and strong local partnerships make this work possible.

Pictured from left to right: Andrew Steenblock, Cerro Gordo County jail administrator, alongside Sam Severson, disease prevention nurse, and Karen Crimmings, disease prevention manager at CG Public Health.

Thank you to our partners and our dedicated team for showing up every day to build a healthier, more supportive community.

A helmet only protects your child if it stays securely in place during a sudden impact. Remember the quick parent check. The helmet must sit level on the forehead, two finger-widths above the eyebrows. Tighten the chin strap so no more than two fingers fit underneath. Finally, have your child open their mouth wide for a big yawn. The helmet should pull down snugly against their head. See the visual fitting guide. https://cghealth.com/resource-hub/?resource=eride_safety&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=eride_safety 🙌
