At drill today, on this solemn day, the 1133rd Transportation Company paused to observe a moment of silence in honor of our fallen brother, SPC Joshua L. Knowles.
Twenty-two years ago, on February 5, 2004, SPC Knowles made the ultimate sacrifice while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom, at just 23 years old. SPC Knowles was a proud member of our unit—he embodied courage, dedication, and selfless service to our nation.
We will never forget his bravery, his commitment, or the light he brought to those who knew him. Today, we remember him not just as a soldier, but as a son, a brother, a friend, and a hero.
The Knowles family remains in our thoughts and prayers. May they find comfort in knowing that Joshua’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his brothers and sisters in arms, and in the freedom we all continue to defend.
Rest in peace, SPC Joshua L. Knowles. You are forever honored and remembered. 🇺🇸

In solidarity with the Iowa National Guard and the Iowa Mayors’ Association, Mason City Mayor John P. Lee issued proclamations designating today, January 13, as SSG Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar Day and SSG William Nathaniel Howard Day. We honor and are deeply grateful for the extraordinary sacrifice of SSG Torres-Tovar and SSG Howard, and for the service of all Iowa National Guard members. Representing the Iowa National Guard at the proclamation signing were WO1 Brent Miller and SSG Zach Thompson.
