Happy Wild Wesnesday!
This week's focus: Frogs ๐ธ
Did you know that Iowa is home to over a dozen species of frogs and toads? These amazing amphibians play an extremely important role in our ecosystems by helping control insect populations and serving as food for many other wildlife species.
Here's a few more fun frog facts:
- Frogs don't drink water through their mouths, they absorb it through their skin!
- A frog's call is often used to attract mates, and each species has its own specific sound.
- Frogs begin life as tadpoles, living entirely in water before turning into adults.
- Because their skin is sensitive to pollution and environmental changes, they are considered important indicators of ecosystem health.
- Some frogs can jump more than 20 times their body length!
Next time you're exploring Lime Creek, listen carefully near the ponds and lake- you might hear our local frog chorus in action!
