Iowa gave us the Library Bill of Rights, a document by Forrest Spaulding that affirms the rights of library users to read freely.

Iowa also gave us Nancy Drew. And older than the state itself is Chief Black Hawk's autobiography, published in 1833.

Learn about Iowa's literary past - then hear from contemporary authors like Jane Smiley, Denise Williams, and Heather Gudenkauf about how Iowa shaped their craft.
