Maryville Treatment Center Improving Lives for Safer Communities. Maryville Treatment Center (MTC) is located in Maryville, Missouri. We value integrity and respect.

We are a minimum security prison within the Missouri Department of Corrections that houses approximately 525 male offenders. We are a treatment facility offering treatment courses, counseling sessions, and many other programs to assist in the rehabilitation of offenders returning to our communities. The employees of MTC are dedicated to improving lives for safer communities and are looking for a few motivated individuals to join our team. We have officially hit 6 weeks with these amazing dogs! They have been growing into great animals. The handlers have been working with them to learn not only basic commands but also fun tricks they can show their doggie friends at their new homes!

We touched base with the handlers to see how the dogs have been doing, they said…
“Bingo has progressively become a different dog since arriving at MTC. He has become the dog he was always meant to be. Bingo obediently follows commands and thrives on affection; with the right attention and care Bingo will make a great best friend for someone!”

“Estelle has a big fan club. People enjoy meeting her and she enjoys the attention. She is a very friendly dog. She loves to play and has displayed a strong sense of loyalty. Estelle is ready to love on her potential adopter when she gets home!”

“Tank has gotten a lot better at his basic commands such as sit, stay, wait, down and leave it. He gets along great with the other dogs. He loves his toys!”

“Kingsley loves to walk around and play with the other dogs! He can crawl, sit, lay down, and stay. He loves it when people rub his belly. He does love his alone time as well, but people have his heart!”

These dogs have been working hard to prepare for their forever homes! Each one of them has their own set of skills and personalities that make them the best. We have been told that Estelle and Kingsley have been adopted, but if you are interested in adopting Tank or Bingo, please contact the Nodaway County Humane Society.

Please join MTC in congratulating Johnathan Kothe on his promotion to Lieutenant.

Mr. Kothe began his career as a COI with the Department of Corrections at MTC in February 2022 and promoted to Sergeant in April 2023. He is currently a Staff Sergeant in the Missouri National Guard and previously worked as a jailer and dispatcher at the Macon County Sheriff’s Office. Lieutenant Kothe is a CERT member, CIT member, Adjunct Trainer, and Field Training Officer.

Please join MTC and the Employee of the Month Selection Committee in congratulating the following staff members on being named MTC Employees of the Month for September 2026.

Custody – Philicia Baker, Correctional Officer II

COII Philicia Baker was nominated by COIII Colton Blay, CCMII Kendra Lewis and DW Michael Mullock, who wrote, “COII P. Baker has made sure that all OJT’s that have started here the last 2 years have the proper training and makes sure that the OJT binders are completed in a timely manner. COII P. Baker ensures that all OJT’s have worked most of the posts, ensuring that they have an idea of how each post operates. Over the last month she has also taken on the role of being the property supervisor. Since taking over property, she has completed a full audit of the property confiscation cage as well as assisted the property officer in conducting a full audit of all property boxes within property. The Property room has become more organized. COII P. Baker assisted the property officer to fill five (5) boxes of fans and tv’s so that they could be donated to the local Women and Children Center of Nodaway County. She consistently shows dedication and effort into any ask she is handed. She is always willing to help and assist when something needs done and is never afraid to roll up her sleeves and do it herself. We appreciate the support she provided to property, her hard work of ensuring that staff have what they need available to them when needed and the leadership she has shown.”

Non-custody – Chance Funk, Corrections Case Manager II

CCMII Chance Funk was nominated by FUM T. Bryce Buholt, who wrote, “I’m nominating Case Manager Chance Funk for Employee of the Month for his work ethic since joining Classification and being a total team player. CCM Funk has stepped up and grown as a Case Manager and is always volunteering to assist other CCM’s with job duties. He has been assisting with Conduct Violations, Intake packets, IRR’s and is completing all Outside Ground referrals for the entire camp. CCM Funk is also a huge part of the IPS program and runs the day to day activities.”

The professionalism shown by these staff members supports MTC’s commitment to The Corrections Way and helps build trust, rapport, respect, listening, appreciating, and valuing across our entire team. I commend their efforts and the leadership they have shown by their personal examples. When you see them, be sure to take a moment to congratulate them on a job well done.

Maryville Treatment Center has had a new group of dogs for a month now, so what better time to introduce them!

Our current group of dogs are Estelle, Tank, Bingo and Kingsley! Estelle is a 3-year-old Pit Mix, who loves to play tug-a-war and is very well mannered. Tank is a 4-year-old Heller Bluetick Mix who loves to play with bones and pop bottles. He is great with women and indoor cats and dogs. Bingo is a 3-year-old Aussie Terrier Mix. He loves to go on walks and cuddle. He is really good with women and calm children. Lastly, we have Kingsley, he is a 5-year-old Akita Mix. He is super affectionate and playful. He loves to play fetch and chew on ropes.


We talked with the handler about how this group has been progressing through training and here’s what they said…

“Estelle is doing great with people and all the attention she is getting. She has learned to sit, lay down, shake and she kind of knows how to play soccer! She is very mellow and listens very well. She has been playing with Bingo in the dog area, the two of them run until they can’t. She rarely misbehaves and loves to cuddle at the end of her day!”

“When Tank got here, he had no concept of obedience. Since his arrival he has learned many commands such as sit, down, kennel and wait. He walks on the leash very well. His favorite things to chew on are his bones and rawhides. He is a work in progress but already such a great dog!”

“Bingo has shown tremendous improvement since his arrival. Due to his intelligence, he has the ability to follow a variety of commands and is easy to work with. He is an active, friendly, and all-around loving dog. When walking around any people even comment on his always smiling and noting how he is just a happy dog.”

“Since being in the P4P program, Kingsley has learned sit, lay, stay and how to wait to walk through a door. Kingsley is a very lovable, playful fluff ball. His newest trick is crawling! He also plays very well with the other dogs!”

We have been told that Estelle and Kingsley have been adopted, but if you are interested in adopting one if these dogs, please contact New Nodaway Humane Society
