Marysville Vfw Post 882 Auxiliary

Today at the Blaine B. Barshinger VFW Post #882 at 11 AM was the Flag Burning Ceremony in honor of Flag Day. The ceremony was attended by community members, Veterans, Auxiliary Members and assisting with the ceremony was Marysville Scouts of America Troop 56.

A flag burning ceremony, formally known as a flag retirement, is a highly respectful and solemn tradition used to properly dispose of worn or damaged United States flags. Under the U.S. Flag Code, burning is the preferred method when a flag is no longer fit to serve.

Marysville VFW Auxiliary Post #882 had a booth at the Marysville/Rye Library Spring Fling to bring awareness of our organization, veterans, and veterans Family support. We had informational handouts, applications and scholarship information. We also raffled a basket of handmade dish cloths, scrubbers, and kitchen cleaning supplies and a kids basket full of art supplies. The winners were thrilled!

Today at 11:00 AM was the Memorial Day Service at the Blaine B. Barshinger VFW Post # 882. There was good representation from the community. Scouts of America Troop 56 handled posting the colors. Following the service lunch was served. It was a very nice and emotional service.

May 1, 2026 – Silver Star Banner Day – Per Congressional resolution, it is an “Official Day to honor wounded, ill, and injured Veterans”.

May 8, 2026 – Military Spouse Appreciation Day – This date recognizes the service and sacrifices of military spouses.

May 13, 2026 – Children of Fallen Patriots Day – A Day to honor the children left behind by the brave men and women who gave their lives while defending our freedom.

May 16, 2026 – Armed Forces Day – Observed on the third Saturday every May, this is a day dedicated to paying tribute to men and women currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

May 25, 2026 – Memorial Day – A solemn occasion to honor the men and women who died while serving in the military.
