As you get ready to zoom into this beautiful weekend, did you know...
16% of all traffic fatalities involve a motorcycle.

Tips for Motorcyclists:
🏍Observe all traffic laws and always obey the speed limit.
🏍Wear a DOT-compliant helmet and other personal protective gear. NHTSA estimates that helmets saved the lives of 1,872 motorcyclists in 2017. An additional 749 lives could have been saved if all motorcyclists had worn their helmets.
🏍Never ride while impaired or distracted. A DUI costs an average $10,000 and can lead to jail time, loss of your operator’s license, and higher insurance rates.
🏍Complete rider education courses and ride with a current motorcycle license.
🏍Drive and ride defensively.

Tips for Motorists:
🚗Remember that motorcyclists have the same rights on the road as any other motorist.
🚗Observe all traffic laws, use signals, and always obey the speed limit. Yield to motorcyclists, especially when you are turning at intersections.
🚗Motorcycles are smaller than most vehicles and can be difficult to see. If you are turning at an intersection with an obstructed view of oncoming traffic, wait to see around the obstruction, scan for all roadway users (pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists), and proceed cautiously.
🚗When following a motorcycle, allow for plenty of space around the motorcycle to maneuver or stop in an emergency, change speed, or adjust lane position to avoid hazards.
🚗Never drive distracted.

It's the first FRIDAY NIGHT UPTOWN of the season!
As you head uptown this evening, stop by and say Hi!

The Union County Safe and Sound Coalition, made up of local law enforcement agencies and the Union County Health Department, are kicking off the 2026 Click It or Ticket Seatbelt Awareness campaign at the City of Marysville's first Friday Night Uptown on May 15. Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, officers from the City of Marysville, and deputies from the Union County Sheriff's Office will join the Union County Health Department in encouraging everyone to wear their seatbelt in advance of the Memorial Day travel season. The Union County Safe and Sound Coalition will have a booth at the May 15 Friday Night Uptown event from 6-8pm talking about the life saving importance of seatbelts - every trip, every time.

THIS SUNDAY!

Annual Community Rabies Vaccination Clinic
Sunday, May 17, 2026 – 1-4pm
Locations in:
Marysville – OSU Large Animal Clinic, 16410 County Home Rd.
Milford Center – Union Township Fire Department, 47 Railroad St.
Raymond – Northwestern Fire Department, 21684 Main St.

Cost is $12 per head. Rabies shots available for cats and dogs 4 months of age and older. This is a one-year vaccine. Cash only. No appointment required. All dogs must be on a leash and under the control of an adult. Wait times are common during the first half of the clinic and shade is limited at some locations. Please bring water for you and your pet if it is a hot day.

This is an annual event aimed at making sure as many cats and dogs as possible are vaccinated against rabies in our community.
The annual community rabies clinics have been operating for more than 35 years in Union County, vaccinating thousands of area animals. The goal is to make sure as many pet owners in our community as possible are able to protect their pet and family from rabies. Each year, local veterinarians, veterinary students and office staff from the OSU Large Animal Services clinic volunteer their time to offer the low-cost rabies shots at community clinics located across Union County. Administrative support for the clinics is provided by the staff and volunteers at the Union County Humane Society and the Union County Health Department.

Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system and is almost always fatal. It is transmitted to people when saliva from an infected animal gets into an open wound or mucous membrane by a bite or scratch. Treatment is effective only if the series of vaccine and immunoglobulin is administered shortly after the exposure, which is why Ohio law requires all animal bites be reported to the local health department within 24 hours. Health departments investigate the exposure situation, quarantine the animal or arrange to have the biting animal euthanized and sent to the Ohio Department of Health lab for testing.

For more information about the rabies vaccination clinics, please contact the Union County Health Department at (937) 642-2053.
