Yuba County Workability Vision:The Yuba County WorkAbility I Program will serve eligible students through marketing, data analysis and exceptional outreach and service

WorkAbility I assists students with the transition from school to work. Through support from the California Department of Education, students receive comprehensive vocational training and work experience. The program provides supportive and competitive worksite placement, and follow-up services. Students also gain self-esteem, and receive other services like vocational training and assessment, wor

ksite supervision and continuing education. WorkAbility I partners with various employers – including restaurants, retailers and movie theaters – to provide students with opportunities for work experience. Employers provide job descriptions, opportunity and a work mentor. The program offers on-the-job training with no employer costs, and training wages for some students. Employers receive a pool of prescreened workers who are ready for training, as well as on-going employer support services. WorkAbility I assists employers with tax incentives and in meeting the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Goal setting is an important step in planning for the future. Here are a few helpful questions to ask yourself when establishing goals:

Career – What level do you want to reach in your career, or what do you want to achieve?

Financial – How much do you want to earn, by what stage? How is this related to your career goals?

Education – Is there any knowledge you want to acquire in particular? What information and skills will you need to have in order to achieve other goals?

Family – Do you want to be a parent? If so, how are you going to be a good parent? How do you want to be seen by a partner or by members of your extended family?

Artistic – Do you want to achieve any artistic goals?

Attitude – Is any part of your mindset holding you back? Is there any part of the way that you behave that upsets you? (If so, set a goal to improve your behavior or find a solution to the problem.)

Physical – Are there any athletic goals that you want to achieve, or do you want good health deep into old age? What steps are you going to take to achieve this?

Pleasure – How do you want to enjoy yourself? (You should ensure that some of your life is for you!)

Public Service – Do you want to make the world a better place? If so, how?

Did you know about Disabled Student Services Programs?

From CA Transition Alliance:

"These programs are available on most California junior college and university campuses. Staffed by trained professionals, the programs provide a broad range of support services for students with disabilities. Among the services available are counseling, tutoring, and reader assistance. Office staff will assist students in working with professors and lecturers to make tests and handouts accessible. The facility for students with disabilities frequently has specialized equipment available such as speech-access computers, braillewriters, CCTVs and reading machines. These programs are valuable resources for any student with special needs."
