Please come and listen to Sonja Shaw this Saturday, Jan 17 in Marysville, as she speaks about the challenges we face in CA with our current education system.

She is the president of the school board for Chino Valley. Most importantly she is a mother who is concerned about what is happening in CA. She is a fierce defender of family values, morality, and truth. Something severely lacking currently in California's education system.

Tickets are free, and donations are welcome. RSVP quickly!

At tonight's board meeting, myself and the rest of the board voted unanimously to pass my proposed policy change to keep our children safe and protected from potential predators who seek to take advantage of the recently passed AB495. With this board approval, a new multi-layer process will be in place to vet and confirm parental approval if/when the affidavit is presented. Please everyone, review your emergency contact list at your child's school, and add as many trusted contacts as you can!

As a board member, I am pleased with our accomplishment, and most importantly, as a parent, I'm relieved that our kids will be safe.

On a side note, I received word lastnight that this policy has made it's rounds across the state, and is being adopted by multiple school districts all over! Praise God for that!

Thank you everyone for the ongoing support. Your families have mine!

Merry Christmas!

Families of MJUSD,

In light of the recent passing of AB 495 (Family Preparedness Plan Act) by Gov Newsom, and due to the potential for harm this brings, with the help of friends and legal experts who are with me on the side of parental rights and safety for our children, I have put forth a new amendment to policy to be considered by the board. It will have it's first read at this coming meeting (11/18), and go for vote at the following meeting in December.

This amendment aims to protect our children from those who may have malicious intent. It sets new requirements for our schools to follow if these affidavits are presented to take authority of a child, including making every available effort to contact the parents/guardian, every listed emergency contact we have on file, and also to contact local law enforcement if something feels off. Parents/guardians have legal authority to immediately revoke the affidavit once they are aware of it. Feel free to review the new amendment to policy in the posted agenda for the coming meeting.

I will advise every family who has children at MJUSD to review your listed emergency contacts at your child's school, and to add as many trusted family members as possible.

The safety of our kids and our families will remain our priority.

Everyone with children needs to familiarize themselves with AB 495, and what it means. This has severe implications to the family. Unreal.

I'll start with how incredibly thankful I am for the absolute outpouring of support I have received and am continuing to receive from our community and beyond. From parents to teachers and professors, community members, to local and state leaders and officials. I can't express the appreciation I have for how quickly everyone has ran to encourage me. I thank you all so very much.

2 years ago, through a lot of prayer and reflection, I decided to run for this seat. I don't come from a background of academics like the majority of the board. I'm just a husband and a father. A father who would give anything to make sure my kids, and the kids in my community are safe. I ran my campaign on very specific things. My intent and my faith was made known from the beginning. I didn't run because I was interested in being part of the bureaucracy, or the negotiations, though I'm happy to lend my opinion to them as part of the job. My primary focus is the kids and the families in our community. It was to make sure the fumblings and abuses we saw during the pandemic didn't happen again to our kids. I made it known that I disagreed with California's plan, and their overreach. That's it. I felt that was needed on our board, and I wasn't the only one. We had an election. I didn't run unopposed, and here I sit. The community agreed with what I had to say, and the community duly elected me because of what I stood for.

At our last meeting I stood on my convictions. I always will. Because I owe it to the kids and families of the community I represent, and those that share those convictions. I am not one to mince my words, I never have been. Nor am I shy to speak about my faith in public. As long as we have a thing called the 1st Amendment, you can expect that from me. There is some misplaced belief that because I may mention my faith in Jesus Christ that it is somehow seeping into the classrooms, and indoctrinating unbelievers. That simply isn't true. If anyone wants to talk to me and find out more about my faith, they can contact me directly to ask about that. Mentioning it during the board meeting caused an unfortunate exchange with an audience member. Order should have been brought to the meeting long before it happened, as there were many rumblings as I was speaking. We need to get back to orderly meetings, as tensions have been running high as of late.

A certain local publication has ran a couple of slander pieces against me. They have asked for my resignation. This publication has injected itself as the arbiter of local politics, and goings-on. They have taken the liberty to interpret the context of my words as they see fit, to create a narrative that wasn't there. They have labeled me as having a "phobia" of a certain class of people. Let me make this clear, I have no "phobias". I fear only God, and ironically enough, public speaking. I am called to love all people. Just as I am called to stand for what is righteous. Thankfully, it seems that the vast majority of the readers are able to see through the garbage, and have rallied to my defense. Thank you all, again. No resignation will come from me.

ALL of this district's children are welcome, and ALL will be protected and assisted, no matter the struggle. And the parents of all of these students are welcomed to be involved. Parents are the backbone and foundation of their children. Who could love their child more than their parent? I'd like to see a new awakening of parental involvement in our schools, and in our children's lives. Let this be our wake up call. Good will come of this.

I'm proud, and honored to represent MJUSD, and Area 4. God bless.

Truly,

Seth Stemen

I understand some parents and community members will be attending tonight's board meeting (5:30) at MJUSD regarding the revelation of some curriculum that is given to the students during health class (PE). I understand not every topic is gone through in depth (thankfully), though the material is in their hands.
I would invite any in the community that is concerned about what the state is now requiring be taught at our local schools in regard to s*x, and s*x ed, to attend tonight's meeting.
As a parent myself, I'm concerned.

This past Tuesday night a bond measure was put to the board for a vote to move forward to the ballot this coming March. The board approved the bond with a vote of 4-2. Myself, and my counterpart from Area 4 were the 2 dissenting votes.

This is a 100 million dollar bond that would go toward the building of a brand new middle school for MJUSD, and also toward new gyms for both LHS, and Foothill.

This was my toughest decision yet. I see the need for these things, as we can see the growth in our area, and the need to be prepared for the influx of students in the next 5 or so years. But I also see the issues we are dealing with as a community, and how families in our area are struggling. Inflation, gas prices, grocery prices, and out of control energy costs - keeping in mind the proposed 26% rate increase from PG&E, interest rates, and out of control consumer debt. Unfortunately, now is just not the time for another tax.

I was told by Councilman Belza, that our local Habitat for Humanity saw it's largest turnout ever, for their grocery giveaway. That paints a very real, and disturbing picture on the pulse of our economy, despite how it may be ignored by the media.

Caring for our children goes beyond just what we offer them at school. We need to look out for our families as a whole. If our children don't have the support they require at home FIRST, we have a bigger problem to deal with at school. But that leads us into another topic for another day, soon..

So it goes now to our community, and voters to decide in March.

Hello all!
I wanted to acknowledge everyone who has an opinion, whether for or against something that the board had voted on at our last open board meeting, on 03/07/23, and give a little bit of insight to why I voted the way I did.

After careful consideration, the board voted unanimously to move forward with the opening of a new Middle College Academy at Yuba College. There was a presentation sharing some of the benefits to this, both to it's future pupils, and to the community. There was also several that clearly, and dutifully, stated their concerns, and shared why they were opposed.

Let me start by giving a little more about myself, and why I decided to run for this position. Out of the 7 member board, I am the only one that does not come from a background in academics. My background is in finance, banking, and investments. Though undoubtedly my background will come in handy, it is not my primary role here. My primary role is that of a parent. I have 2 children in this district, whom I love very much, and would go to the ends of the earth for. My thinking, and that which guides my vote as a trustee is that of a parent. I made this clear while campaigning, and this is what made my campaign a success.

As an involved parent, if my child was driven academically, and showed such dedication that an option like this academy would be fruitful for them, and I being dedicated to them and their success, why would I ever tell them no? Why would I do anything other than give them every single opportunity to be successful, and give them a jumpstart to that success?
I am a husband, and parent first. Everything else comes second.

In these times it is apparent that not every student has the same quality of home life. Not every student has an invested parent. This is why I ran. My first encounter with the very board I now sit on was one of odds during the fiasco of covid. I felt I needed to express my views of parental rights to protect our children. Unfortunately, there are children in this district that do not have that person who would do that for them, so I will be that advocate. There are others on the board who will be as well.

This academy is not for every student. It isn't even for every AP student. Like one of the AP teachers wonderfully said in the prior meeting, "...these AP students serve on the student body, they are athletes, they are musicians, they are more than just academics..", he's right, they are, and they will remain those things. For those students, they will probably be happier, and more successful where they could continue being those things. This school isn't for them. This new option will require much, including sacrifice, from both the student, and their parents. This isn't about comparing AP students to middle college students. There is no competition. This is simply a different route, for different people.

To those who shared their concerns, believe me, those concerns are also shared by the members of the board. Many steps have been taken to address them, including opening several wellness centers on campus for our students. Addressing more of these concerns is a priority, have been discussed by the board, and will be confronted. Frankly, we need more involved parents at home, and a focus on stability needs to be every family's priority. There are many negative outside influences that affect our children's daily lives. As parents and guardians, we need to be our children's strongest protector, their greatest filter, and their biggest fans.

That said, both of these things can happen. We can have a new option for our students, and we can also focus on our struggles. One thing doesn't mean we don't have the other.
Please, to all, parents, teachers, administration, staff, feel free to reach out to me whenever, however. My ear is at your disposal.

-Seth

Only took 3 weeks... But we did it! Can't thank you all enough for the ongoing support over these last few months. I had an awesome team helping me along the way. God has placed some really great people in my life over the last couple of years, and I'm thankful for them. I'm glad this first hurdle is behind us, and the real focus can begin.

Please, I ask that you all keep the momentum with me, and continue this fight for our children. Come to the meetings, it is imperative! We need more parents, family members, and neighbors to show up at these meetings, and make your voices heard! Too many people are hoping that someone else will speak for them. That's a sure way give power away.

I'm honored to take the seat after Trustee, Jeff Boom, who gave us 20 years of service, and dedication to our kids. Thank you Jeff, for all you've done, and sacrificed.

I'm excited, and looking forward to serving the families of MJUSD, and of Area 4, with sensibility, morality, and a focus on parental rights.

I want to take some time to thank Trustee Jeff Boom, for sacrificing hours and hours away from his family to serve on the MJUSD School Board, for an astounding 20 years. Jeff has been one of the board members we could always count on to vote with the children's best interest at heart.
I was saddened to learn he was not going to run again for the seat, due to personal reasons, but I am honored to have his endorsement to take his place.

Thank you Jeff, for looking after our children these last 20 years. You are appreciated.
