‼️ SCAM ALERT ‼️

‼️ Text Scam Alert: Impersonation of Kansas DOV ‼️

We’ve recently been alerted to a new text scam in which fraudsters impersonate the Kansas Department of Revenue Division of Vehicles (DOV). These messages falsely claim that the recipient owes unpaid traffic fines, aiming to steal personal and financial information.

Please note: The DOV DOES NOT collect unpaid traffic fines and will NEVER send unsolicited text messages regarding fines, toll fees, or other payments.

What to Do if You Receive a Scam Message:
• ❌ Do not click on any links in the message.
• ❌ Do not provide any personal or payment information.
• 🗑️ Delete the message immediately.

If you receive a text message claiming to be about unpaid traffic fines, tolls, or other payments that you suspect is a scam, please report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

Protecting your information is important. Fraudsters constantly change tactics to exploit unsuspecting individuals through deceptive text messages. Stay informed and stay vigilant against these fraudulent attempts.

If you are heading in to the office to renew vehicles, we ask that you be prepared to drop your documents off. As has become the normal, the Kansas Department of Revenue's motor vehicle system is experiencing problematic issues that are keeping us from completing renewals that include plate replacements.

We ask that you be sure to bring a copy of your insurance and your Heavy Use 2290 form (for trucks tagged heavier than 54M). Your tags will be renewed as soon as the system seems reliable. Unfortunately, this is a statewide issue and we have no ETA on it will be operational again. We truly appreciate your patience while we all wait..

Trust me - this is as frustrating for county offices as it is for the public.

Just a reminder to bring your insurance cards with you when renewing your vehicles, especially if you are only renewing trailers. They can be faxed to us at 785-562-5421. Thank you!

It has come to our attention the heavy truck and trailer renewal notices have NOT been mailed from the state printer (this is a statewide issue).

Please follow this link to reprint your renewal notice. Or you may bring in the plate numbers for the trucks/trailers you wish to renew along with proof of insurance (trailers require proof of insurance for the vehicle pulling the trailer).

All trucks over 55,000 lbs require the stamped IRS Form 2290.
