It's official! Welcome to the newest member of the museum's Research & Collections team, Dr. Jackson Roberts!

As the museum's new Assistant Curator of Herpetology, Jackson is set to play a leading role in researching the reptiles and amphibians residing right here in the Commonwealth.

With a particular interest in snakes and reptile parasites, Jackson completed his dissertation on the snakes of New Guinea at the Louisiana State University Museum of Natural Science, and he comes to VMNH by way of the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays, Kansas, where he served as Zoology Collections Manager.

Welcome aboard, Jackson! We're excited to have you as part of the VMNH team!

Don’t miss your chance to walk among these icons of the ancient past before they disappear...again!

Associate Curator of Paleontology Dr. Adam Pritchard and Paleontology Research Technician Lucy Treado were thrilled to get the call to help the Caroline County Library kick-off it's 2026 Summer Reading program yesterday at the Caroline County Visitor's Center!

The duo provided a wealth of info — and incredible specimens — highlighting the amazing volume of ancient marine (and terrestrial) fossils that the Martin Marietta quarry in Caroline County has yielded for decades, including the discovery of an extinct species of whale, Eobalaenoptera harrisoni! 🐋
