Thank you Morgan County Highway Department Superintendent Eddie Fisher and the entire Highway Department crew as well as the Community Corrections staff, Eric Mullikin and Randy Hacker and their crew, for the donation of gravel to the law enforcement firing range and the labor to get it placed.

The Community Corrections Crew did a great job as usual spreading the donated gravel and Randy even got involved.

This is very much appreciated and will improve the entry and exit into the fi****ms building much cleaner and safer.

Thank you all!

🌐🛡️ June is Internet Safety Month 🛡️🌐

The internet connects us to information, education, entertainment, and each other—but it also comes with risks. During Internet Safety Month, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office encourages parents, guardians, and community members to take an active role in protecting themselves and their families online.

A few simple steps can make a big difference:

✅ Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication.
✅ Think before you click on links, emails, or text messages from unknown sources.
✅ Keep devices and apps updated with the latest security patches.
✅ Talk with children about online safety, cyberbullying, and the dangers of sharing personal information.
✅ Review privacy settings on social media accounts and online platforms.
✅ Report suspicious online activity to law enforcement.

Parents are encouraged to stay involved in their children’s online activities. Open communication and education remain some of the most effective tools in preventing online exploitation and fraud.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is committed to helping keep our community safe both offline and online. Together, we can create a safer digital environment for everyone.

It’s a foggy morning! Everyone stay safe and have a great Thursday!

This Memorial Day, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office honors and remembers the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this holiday weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We also ask our community to celebrate safely:
• Drive responsibly and never drive impaired
• Buckle up and obey all traffic laws
• Watch for increased holiday traffic and motorcycles
• Keep an eye on children near water

From all of us at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, thank you to our fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy.

Have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

On behalf of the Samuelson family, La Porte County Sheriff Ronald C. Heeg announces the following update regarding Deputy Jon Samuelson.

Following yesterday’s senseless incident at Franciscan Health Hospital – Michigan City Campus, Deputy Samuelson was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for advanced medical treatment.

A team of surgeons and medical staff prepared Deputy Samuelson for surgery. He underwent approximately eight (8) hours of surgery, which surgeons later described as successful. Medical staff remain optimistic regarding his recovery.

Deputy Samuelson remains in critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hospital.

“Thank you to the surgeons and the entire medical staff at Memorial Hospital for the exceptional care being provided to Deputy Samuelson,” stated Sheriff Heeg. “Please continue to pray for Jon, his family and friends, and the entire law enforcement community.”

Deputy Samuelson is a 12-year veteran of the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office. He currently serves as a member of the agency’s Highway Interdiction Unit, is the handler for K-9 Bosco, and is designated as a US Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force Officer out of the Merrillville District Office.
