Southwestern Piedmont Master Naturalists We are volunteer educators, citizen scientists, and stewards helping Virginia conserve and manage natural resources and public lands.

The SWP naturalist chapter serves the area of Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania Counties The Virginia Master Naturalist Program is a statewide corps of volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. Interested Virginians become Master Naturalists through training and volunteer service. Thi

Virginia Master Naturalists – Southwestern Piedmont Chapter 2025 In Review: The Virginia Master Naturalist program is a statewide corps of trained volunteers providing education, science, and stewardship to benefit natural resource conservation in their communities. A 2025 Project Highlight is the J. Frank Wilson Park cleanup. Statistics included 53 volunteers contributing 4,270 service hours valued at $146,987; 20 sites stewarded; 27 scientific, monitoring, and inventory studies supported; 19,837 contacts made through education and outreach; 29 partnerships with local organizations.

If there’s a better way to spend a Monday evening than coloring and listening to live music at a state park while supporting local farmers and artisans, we can’t think of it!
